I remember he got selected in the 2007 T20 World Cup as a T20 "specialist". Quite remarkable considering where he is in the England set up now.Yep; another Trott similarity in that he was an awesome List A batsman when he his First Class performances weren't consistently justifying his ability, but his longer form improvements have actually seen a decline in his one day game.
Trott had every right to be in the ODI team on domestic merit years before he actually got there but he was picked at the perfect moment for Test cricket, which is funny when you consider that his detractors now want him out of the ODI side.
Dernbach's done well in FC the last couple of seasons to be fair to him, certainly shouldn't hold his ODI performances against him as he's a good FC bowler imo.I can only assume Dernbach has incriminating photos of someone.
I look forward to Brooks & Coles thoroughly outbowling him - and Richardson would certainly take more wickets than Dernbach!
And you say the media jump on the Bopara bandwagon when he succeeds, you're exactly the same when he fails! And there goes sad sack for 6.
Taylor has a far better record actually and is much younger. Plus he doesn't whine like a big girl on Twitter when the ball is moving about too much. Also the thing with Bopara is he's been shown to be ****ing useless in over 100 matches that shower of ****e has played for England. The experts don't rate his technique and there is a big question mark over his temperament. His bowling is barely a factor at international level and his fielding doesn't stand up to the pressure either.
Taylor is an unknown 22yo with an impressive record. Bopara is a known 26yo with a good FC/List A record and rubbish T20 record. And the known part doesn't work well with someone who turns out to be ****e at international level. Taylor could end up being worse or better than Bopara. Bopara-level is nowhere near good enough for England, so that's why most sane people want someone with potential and not the same tried and tested failure.
22 Championship wickets @ 40 isn't what I'd class as "done well".Dernbach's done well in FC the last couple of seasons to be fair to him, certainly shouldn't hold his ODI performances against him as he's a good FC bowler imo.
He's ****. It's the total unjust nature of him getting chance after chance after chance. I mean look at how many T20Is he's played and his record is a complete embarrassment. His Test batting has been a joke bar 3 drop-laden centuries against a pub team. He's played a lot of ODIs despite being rubbish and his presence means someone else doesn't get a chance. If he wasn't so fashionable he would have been discarded long ago.And you say the media jump on the Bopara bandwagon when he succeeds, you're exactly the same when he fails!
Last year he took 34 wickets at 33.08 in 11 matches in division 2.Dernbach's done well in FC the last couple of seasons to be fair to him, certainly shouldn't hold his ODI performances against him as he's a good FC bowler imo.
A class above Dernbach is Woakes 56 wickets at 21.78 and 579 runs at 48.25 last season.Last year he took 34 wickets at 33.08 in 11 matches in division 2.
If that's him doing well then we're ****ed.
2009 37 wickets at 38.81Can't find his 09 and 10 figures but I suspect he had good seasons then as his average is fairly respectable now. He had a pretty horrific start to his FC career if memory serves me.
Woakes looks like a serious talent, should be playing for the Lions/England ODIs the second he's fit again, IMO.A class above Dernbach is Woakes 56 wickets at 21.78 and 579 runs at 48.25 last season.
Can trump that. Was planning to watch it, but dozed off after two and a half beers and woke up on couch at 2am.Did you just watch that doco on John Le Mesurier too.

And not forgetting Tim Linley, the best seamer at Surrey for the past 18 months. Averaged 18, took 70 odd wickets with a SR comparable to that of Dale Steyn last year. Think he has now been dropped as well by Surrey as they opt for the glamour boys and thus can only accommodate one seasoned pro (Lewis) into the side.A class above Dernbach is Woakes 56 wickets at 21.78 and 579 runs at 48.25 last season.
England ODIS no. He is a poor ODI bowler. If he could improve his ODI bowling he would be a great addition to the team because of his batting.Woakes looks like a serious talent, should be playing for the Lions/England ODIs the second he's fit again, IMO.
England have to look at bowlers who will take wickets in international cricket. Linley bowls 75-80mph?. This may work in England in early season or in the second division with the tiflex ball but this isn't going to work in international cricket unless your super human with the ball. England have to look at these players and decide on potential - whether they could play international cricket? And not forgetting Tim Linley, the best seamer at Surrey for the past 18 months. Alan Richardson deserved a call-up here, I would imagine he would completely own the Windies in early season conditions.

I think for a stand out domestic performer at the good level of county cricket, you cannot use the argument that their performances won't convert to Test cricket in England against often more technically suspect batsmen than you find in Division One. Praveen Kumar showed that a bowler at a low speed can have success within England against the top batsmen in Test cricket in such conditions (England). I watch highlights on Surrey TV too and though I cannot put an exact figure on it, it looked like Linley was bowling around 85mph at times.England have to look at bowlers who will take wickets in international cricket. I think Meaker should get the 'Test player in waiting' treatment that is currently afforded to Dernbach. What’s the point of calling up Dirtbag then? He isn’t a test bowler today, tomorrow or next year. Similar the chances of Carberry being a successful replacement to Strauss are pretty slim, Root kicking on again question marks. Lions is not England U21, guys who are on-form, doing well should be rewarded. Everyone knows that Onions is ahead of the likes of Brooks, but Brooks gets a go as he is in form and warrants a look-in. That’s all it is.
but england know what onions can do. he went on a tour of UAE with them this winter. His exclusion also makes it likely that he's in the 12 or 13 man squad for the test series. He has put on a yard, bowled pretty sharply last year from all reports and the commentary I was listening to.

I was going to use Praveen in my post earlier as an example but then deleted it. Here was a player who could move it round corners both ways seemingly at ease. And yet at 77mph he did ok in ideal conditions. Next tour india goto Australia and Kumar is on the sidelines for the whole tour, dropped. England have to pick out players for an international career rather than on the basis of statistics for one season.I think for a stand out domestic performer at the good level of county cricket, you cannot use the argument that their performances won't convert to Test cricket in England against often more technically suspect batsmen than you find in Division One.
