Nothing can be done about that when the players themselves don't want to rest, they have been throwing a fit at the very mention of being rested.
Could always stop scheduling so much pointless, cash-grabbing cricket in between series....

The outstanding payments for the Sri Lankan cricketers is apparently close to 6mn in american dollars.

That decision won't make any difference to the game, but why do we have to play under Indian rules when they've already gone home? (Yes, I know it's because the rules are in place for the whole series). Would love to have seen them bring the UDRS back in as soon as they flew out though...just as a big **** you.
Or Cricket Australia could grow some balls.

Awesome performance from Sri Lanka....hopefully the third final is closer than that and there is balance between bat and ball.

Well I do remember predicting that come this time of the summer, Australian players would be dropping like flies given how much cricket we're playing.
The bowlers from both sides look beat down.
Going to be 5 games in 10 days with about 4 flights in between. (4 in 8 for Australia)

SL got their first Asia cup game on the 13th, final (if they qualify) on the 22nd, and then the first test against England starts on the 26th. Australia's first WI game starts on the 16th as well, but they were at least playing home games. SL flew from a full test and ODI SA tour to Australia.

Brutal scheduling this.

In a perfect world that would be the ideal thing to do but since that isn't the case alternate measures need to be taken, the simplest thing to do would be to prioritise the tours and series we play in and keep the best players fresh for the more important fixtures, but that too can't be done because of the insecurity that the established players have regarding their spots in the side.

Anyways by the looks of it Clarke seems to be out for a good month or two and Pattinson too is under an injury cloud, gotta wonder how a bloke like Kountouris manages to hold onto his job despite all this.

so many injuries lately
Injuries are part of the game but a physio's job is to ensure proper rehab and conditioning so that a similar injury doesn't bother the player when he makes a comeback, but Kountouris has basically failed on all these counts.

What we need is a physio with expertise similar to Errol alcott, that man was an absolute genius and played a big part in making Australia a dominant force by keeping the best players relatively injury free through their careers and blokes like him are often the unsung heroes but they are the ones that can make all the difference to a team's fortunes.

Came in to make a pretty obvious sort of statement - this has been a gripping series. We need more of these multi-national ODI tourneys. Just so much more better than 7-match bilateral series.

iirc Clarke went against his suggestion not to return to the team as quickly as he did.

If anything he's not assertive enough or players don't put much credence in his suggestions.

This isn't the first time Clarke's pushed to rush back for an important match despite medical dodginess, tbh. He has form on this count, it's hardly surprising.

yeah pretty disappointing by clarke. it's pretty much always 21 days for hamstrings.

Regardless of what happens in the last final, it is surprising how many times SL has managed to beat Australia in this tri-series. It's 4-2 so far and it was 2-1 in the last series which makes it 6 wins for SL out of their last 9 games in Australia. Overall Australia has been quite average in their home ODI's for the last five years. Tri-series losses to England and India. Series losses to South Africa and Sri Lanka and stretched to the limit in this tri-series. Some big wins against Pakistan and England too but overall they have been better away than at home in ODI's which will worry them in the run-up to the next World Cup.

It wasn't his originally hurt hammy that he re-did was it?

Mind you by favouring his 'good' hammy it added extra load, but whatevs.

That's basically what he said as well.

It's admirable that he wants to get on the park for critical games but yeah, he's made this mistake too many times now. Get an MD, Pup, or listen to the physio more carefully.

Indeed - Seems to work well in Aussie as well (tri-series).

Irrespective of the 3rd final's result I think Sri Lanka will leave with their reputation enhanced. All three teams have shown at various stages of the tournament why they have had the success they've had in recent times in ODI's. Australia have been woefully inconsistent. I wonder if the BBL just prior to this series has had a more adverse impact on our bowlers than what we were expecting.

I think it just reflects what a few of us were saying at the start of the series. we've got about 8 seamers who we can call on to play and 3 matches out of 5 will put forward a solid performance, but Lee's - frickin LEE - is the closest we've got to a bowler who is solid in every match.
