They weren't really any less open when he took Sturridge off though, and they looked less likely to score too, after.

Getting rid of Alex, and persisting with Luiz, now buying Cahill. He's also the one keeping Torres on.

He may have had a bunch of over-rated tossers at the club, but he's done nothing to improve it, IMHO.
I just think he's doing ok. The squad he inherited was a lot closer to being the 5th best team in the division than it was to being the 3rd so sitting in 4th at this stage while still in the cup and CL doesn't really warrant calls to sack him. Although tbf he's spent most of the season saying he expects to challenge for the title so he's kinda brought it on himself.

City's defence the best of a very ordinary bunch imo. Begins to look considerably more suspect when Kompany is absent. Still not convinced by Lescott, and Savic is poor. Zabaleta very good though I think. Wish he played for Arsenal.

Problem with Chelsea's team apart from having a cack defence and Torries being rubbish is the fact that they just don't have a player who can keep the ball in midfield. Need a player who rather than being an out and out defensive/attacking midfielder is someone who can just get on the ball, pass it around and bring others into play. Raul Mereiles ought to be able to do this, but like most of the Chelsea midfield he just runs around like a headless chicken.

Yep brilliant save, and all the better that he and his still dodgy punching will be playing, for the next few games.
Chelsea let him off lightly I thought. No idea why they didn't try and bombard him with crosses. An absence of Drogba may have been something to do with this perhaps, but they ought to start playing Lukaku, he's meant to be good isn't he? Can't be any less effective than Torres either. Big, strong guy in any case, imagine he'd De Gea a terrible time.

Not a lot between them I'd say. Mertesacker also incredibly dubious.
Hmm, I think Savic is the worst. From what we've seen at least, it's a bit harsh to judge him at 21 after only a handful of games. But those games were comedy gold.

BARNES OUT
He's had some shocking positional moments. I don't rate him particularly highly at the moment, without my sky blue glasses I'd say he's the worst CB of the top 4-6 teams, but I think he has the attributes to be a very good defender in the future and plenty of time. Hopefully he can get better.

He does. Well for my Everton side in Championship Manager 2000/01 anyhow. Took about 2 years mind and learning from Arne Friedrich on how to play right back.

Not too much wrong with Stefan Savić. Sure he looks ordinary but he is 21 and playing first full season in a top league as a bit time player. He isn't that important to Citeh at this stage and isn't stinking up the place as much as say Per Mertesacker, David Luiz, Rio, JT et cetera are doing.

Nice of Givet to apologise to Wenger on the touchline after getting sent off on the weekend. Hope the subservient Frog rots in the reserve; he can watch the club relegation from there. No issue with him saying sorry to Wenger, the two men have history but he is a Blackburn player and it’s the players and Steve Kean that Gael should be saying sorry to first.

Watching that and the Toon game midweek and this is hard to take as there are genuinely some good players in the side who are Premiership class. It’s just unforgivable that they can make Walcott look like a footballer.

Erm, Jonny Evans?
Savic has been easily worse than Evans so far. Though he may be still adapting to the league. Luiz is there or thereabouts too, especially positionally.

Actually Phil Jones so far has been poorer when played at CB for United than Evans.

David Jones hasn't made a single mistake in central defence for United this season.

I think sideshow should win this award, because unlike the others mentioned, he has been first-choice all season. Oh and he's unbeliveably **** at defending too.

Not like I don't agree with the decision to strip the armband from the overrated hack ****, but what happened to innocent until proven guilty?

If he wasn't stripped when he was charged, why do it now?
It seems Mr Capello agrees with you. He is not pleased.

Heard David Davies on the tellybox this morning suggesting Capello's comments would put him in breach of contract - must be a strangely worded document - I suspect a messy and expensive divorce might be on the cards

The thing is, I think the right decision has ultimately been reached but can't help but side with Capello on a point of principle. He has been undermined and Terry should have been stripped when charged or not at all, as Brumby said.

Nah I think the FA has got this spot on. If the trial was happening before the Euros they could have just waited for the outcome before making a decision but they clearly can't go to a major international footballing tournament with a captain awaiting trial for racism. And it's definitely not an issue they should be leaving to Capello, he was employed for his footballing expertise and this has nothing to do with football.
