I think others have picked up on it too, but there's a fair bit of Finn about Yadav.
Not a bad shout, actually. I think Yadav is now about where Finn was on the Ashes tour. Bowls wicket taking deliveries amidst a bit of dross and has a happy knack of getting wickets with ordinary balls too.

Since the summer Finn has definitely gained a yard (consistently so, like Yadav he could always crank it up on occasions) and found some more swing by bowling a slightly fuller length generally.

Anyway, good test match. 122 runs sounds pretty convincing, but it was a closer game than that IMHO. India actually bowled pretty well as a unit and were let down by the fielding (predictably), Dhoni's inherent defensiveness (his fields to Hilf and Pattinson were the cricketing equivalent of handing over your wallet in the hope your assailant somehow misses your rolex) & (less predictably) the much vaunted, etc batting.

Great partnership from Hussey and Ponting yesterday too. Two chaps coming in under pressure for their places at 27/4 and playing with the nous they showed adds weight to the idea of backing experience where there's any doubt.

Then there is the other dozen or so times lately when they've simply gotten out cheaply in a similar position. Still at least with Australia they're getting plenty of experience of it.

Just bat well and get a bit of luck, regardless of the situation. People need to stop putting things down to experience. Virtually all the experience in this Test match was with the batsmen, hell the bowlers with no experience batted about as well as the specialist batsmen did. Experience is incredibly over-rated.

Speaking as a veteran of the game yourself I imagine.

Suffice to say I don't agree.

By all means if there's a budding tyro batting great knocking on the door give him a go, but when the alternatives are batsmen like George Bailey, whose FC career to date suggests he's not fit to carry Hussey's or Ponting's jock straps, then I'd feel much happier with the blokes who've done it before in my team.

Class/form, etc.

Both Hussey and Ponting wear regulation underwear as far as I'm aware ftr.

Exactly my sentiment
India's much vaunted ''great batting line up'' lets India down and the much derided Indian bowling shows some character
Those who were calling for the heads of Ponting and Hussey may have something (or nothing) to say now.

Yeah, but mate, Sharma bowls exactly the same way all the time, It's not an isolated case of him bowling well and being 'unlucky'. Every-time he comes up against a decent batting line-up, he does this, at least for the last two years.
Hitting the nail on the head

The bowlers won the game. Australia's best batsman was arguably the debutant. Save this bollocks for an occasion when good players who happen to be experienced aren't collectively somewhat ****e.

Hmm. I'd say you should make a judgment on the quality of the batsmen at your disposal and pick whichever one's best, in this case, Mike Hussey rather than George Bailey. Obviously batsmen improve with experience, but being experienced in itself isn't a virtue. It doesn't particularly matter whether you're the better batsman because you've been through it all before or you just happened to be born that way.

I don't mean to say that experience is overrated, in fact I'd argue that it's rather underrated. Being experienced is what I think is overrated in that it's often presented as a reason to pick someone in itself rather than a reason why they're as good as they are.

Yeah, he really stood up in the second knock, eh? "Australia's best leaver" (as described by infinitely better judges than me) pads up to a straight one. Now this may be a huge conceptual leap, but it's the pressure of playing at a higher level for the first time that's likely to induce such mistakes. Bit more experience (see what I've done there?) and he might not have brainfades like that.

&, if you consider Ponting's and Hussey's efforts to be "collectively somewhat ****e", then I'd suggest your view of the match was too compromised by having your head your arse. The former made 2 50s and the latter a match-turning 89 after being sawn off in the first innings. If that's ****e I'll take ****e, ta.

I'm not advocating experience for experience's sake, I said I'd back it where the decision's a marginal one:

Not sure why I did this considering he averages something terrible in the 4th innings (20 isn’t it?) but I pinned all hopes on a Sehwag special then promptly went to bed after he cut out to Hussey.

Really disappointing from India. Bowled extremely well yet it was the top gun batters who let them down. Thought Ashwin was really poor with the ball though, helps that he can hold a bat but he was all over the place and bowling quicker than Afridi at times. Yadev is a breath of fresh air, all over the place too but not afraid to pitch it up or indeed go for 20 in an over in the pursuit of a wicket.

Very disappointing game this. After all the excitement of the previous 3 days this was a total let down. A bit similar to the game against England where we had them 120/7 then let them score 250 or so, crumbling with the bat after being in a real good position.

Gambhir looks out of place. But don't think there is a spare opener in the squad. So we have to stick with him and pray. Laxman disappointed, but with him there is hope that he will turn it around. Kohli looked out of place. Will the team management drop him after 1 game though?

The bowling was fine, captaincy was crap especially when there was a tailender at the crease. Next test is at Sydney and hopefully our batting will fire there. Going to be a tough tour. Just hope it is not a 4-0.

Michael Clarke says hi.

As for Ponting and Hussey good on them this is what we needed from them in the past. If even one of them stood up in example 1, 2, 3 then go right ahead and use the experience card, but when there are three scores under 100 then you have to ask where were the experience guys?

Rahane, tbh.

I think you can win Sydney, btw. Laxman and Tendulkar's records are too good to ignore for there.

Good thing the next test is at Sydney. The best place for our batsmen to get some form back. The Australian bowling has been real good in this test though. Will be yet another interesting game and can't start quick enough.
