Suarez gets an eight-match ban for racially abusing Evra.

Wonder what line of reasoning Liverpool will take when they appeal it?

A quick google around suggests that Suarez said "negrito", which he claimed was not offensive, but affectionate, in Uruguay. Hum.

Reo-Coker just scored by accident. Although if Blackburn persist in playing Pedersen at left back, it's hardly a surprise that they're leaking faster than a sieve in the ballroom of the Titanic. All together now, "Sacked in the Morning..."

They have a point tbf.

Eight games seems a lot really, as bad as racism is. I mean horror tackles that could end careers normally get three matches. I'm all for stamping racism out but this seems out of left-field.

What's happening with the Terry case?

Yep, that's apparently it - though I'd heard he said negro, not negrito. TBF negrito is the diminutive, and hence affectionate, version of the word. Why he'd be using a term of affection with a bloke who he clearly can't stand and can't stand him is another question.

Kean clearly out of his depth, but I can't help but feel a little sorry for him here.

Meh, got off lightly IMO - Should've been given a 3 match ban for every time he said a racist word.... So if it was 3 instead of the reported 10 then fair enough.

Sure people will say I'm only saying that because I'm a Utd fan, but I'd say the same if it was Vidic or Rooney who did it. Will 8 games really teach him a lesson, thats a short break for him compared to some of his other bans.

Also, Liverpool should refuse to pay him until his ban is up - that'll hit him more than fining him 3 days pay.

Disagreeing with that - Horror tackles are rarely deliberate and vindictive (unless your a Mr R Keane), many times its sheer bad timing of an honest (if reckless) attempt to get the ball.

Racism however, well thats a deliberate, very personal attack on an individual, designed to cause emotional damage. Not to mention its against the law. If we say it shouldnt be punished hard as 'Its only words' will just ruin any anti racism campaign.

That's why the defence didn't wash with me. He was directing a racial (tho not necessarily racist) term towards someone he barely knows and clearly wasn't using it to make friends with him. At best he was taking the piss, "Little black man", indeed.

I've no problem with 8 games myself, hope it's a precedent, in fact.

No I agree that racism needs to be stamped out and perhaps the problem is that some other things are dealt with too lightly. But the point about racism being illegal also applies to chopping an opponent in half in some instances - I think you're being too generous to dismiss most as accidental tbh.

Moot point anyway, if he said it then he deserves a ban but the lack of one for Terry is a stinker isn't it?

Judging by the reaction of their fans on twitter: 'Man Utd are scum'

Yeah if it sets a precedent great but I'm sceptical

Have no sympathies. If he said what he has been accused of, the length of the ban seems warranted. Whether "negrito" is an endearing thing to say in Uruguay is neither here or there, in the context of the situation it was only ever going to be construed as being offensive, and doubtless Suarez would have been aware of this at the time.

And yet Terry walks away unpunished. Wow.
Is this really surprising though?

Edit: as others have said, granted this one is still up in the air. But I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow gets away with it. Knowing the FA.

Must admit I've not been following carefully but nonetheless I'll be very surprised to see Terry get eight

Wonder if Liverpool will appeal
