***Official*** New Zealand in Australia 2011

That performance hurts a lot. Expected a lot more out of them, and it is a worry when a 37 year-old is your best bowler. Some good years ahead for Australia one feels with their quality young pace attack.

What that match clearly showed for me was that McCullum has to re-take the gloves for mine and another batsman/bowler be played.
Agree re McCullum as he is a very good "all-rounder" but not a particularly good specialist batsman and taking the gloves would open up another spot
And we open with who?

If that is the case they really are being cautious with Cummins as he said he'd be right to go for the first test.

All the noises going around suggest he won't be playing at Hobart.

We'll see. An attack of Cummins, Pattinson, Lyon (oh and siddle) would be great viewing.

I reckon there is very little chance Copeland will get a call up. Cummins really should play, I don't really know why they would have to be that careful with him. Not sure what the deal is with Watson's injury status, but I'm sure he'll be fine and could well knock out Hughes. Won't be suprised though if they pick the same XI, even Starc.

So I assume Watson, Cummins won't be playing at Hobart?

If so the only change I'd make is Copeland in for Starc (so effectively we play the XI we should have played this match)
so in reality hughes out christan in everyone goes up one spot, inc haddin

They already announced that Christian is in the squad for the injured Cutting, so Copeland slips behind another....

It won't happen but imagine a pace attack of a fit Harris, Cummins and Pattinson. That could be brutal!

Copeland is no more probing than C9s commentary team analysis. Would rather attack than pick a guy who was handy to make up for MJ/Siddle being ****.

.....so you'd pick siddle?

copeland attacks. don't know why everyone wants him to be a defensive 3rd seamer

Compared to bowlers like Cummins, Pattinson and Harris, he is definately less penetrative imo, unless the wicket is seaming a lot. Compared to Siddle though I still think he is more likely to pick up wickets and go for less runs while doing it.

Dammit NZ. I thought I could finally watch some cricket on Sunday and they're 150/9 when I tune in. Dissapointing performance.

Good on Australia. Hopefully Cummins, Pattinson, Khawaja and co. fulfill potential.

I think it's a tad hard to know when he's been picked for two tests in SL. I mean, you don't consistently bowl 20-25 over spells in FC cricket and go for two or less RPO unless you're asking some questions of the batsmen, surely?

Most of that is just to do with him bowling such tight lines though. I'm talking penetrative, as in SR, not economy. I've seen plenty of him in Shield cricket to know that on a helpful surface he could actually be as penetrative as anyone, but on less helpful wickets (once the new ball has lost it's shine) I think his role would be the more defensive 3rd seamer Spikey referred too. Whatever the case, his role in the team would be very useful.
