Tbh this test has been played in conditions that probably gave us the best chance of an upset. Enough swing and seam to give Martin and Southee the assistance they needed.

But we well and truly fluffed it.
Not to mention a untested and hence nervous bowling attack.

Game set and match. Speaks volumes that all bar two of 20 Kiwi wickets were out caught (and one of them was Martin).

Well done Australia, thoroughly professional performance that

Hang your heads NZ, that was a disgrace. You don't even deserve a 2nd Test after that feeble display, let only a 3rd

International Captain
Hughes needs to learn to leave on length. I don't mean the dismissal, which was rank and wide (still a danger ball to him) but the ball he was dropped.
The drop was a cracking seed tbf, but yes leaving on length is what he needs to learn. Just playing far too many balls that he could be leaving alone. If he is leaving the short ones, he'll force the bowlers to pitch up and his driving is all class.

He's 23.

Problem is, he's just not learning. Seems to want a swack at everything he should just leave.
Nevertheless, we have to give him time. Hayden took a very long time to mature. I have faith that in five years time we'll be singing his praises as a potential all time great if he's persisted with.

Don't think Hughes is any danger of being dropped and a leftie nicking out to Martin is nothing new, even if nicking out isn't new to Hughes.

If he ever does figure out how to leave balls outside off-stump, ****.
