Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

He is very much like Gilchrist, anything remotely bad will go to the fence. Of course this can also be his downfall. Technique wise didn't see anything serious to worry about.
That obviously is heartening. He needs to keep making runs and taking wickets obviously, but even if no.6 is beyond him if his bowling continues to deliver, an attacking bat at 8 or 7 in the Gilchrist mold would be very nice. Watson's bowling would really open that up as a genuine possibility.

Just watching the stream from the MCG.

Wade has saved the Vics bacon again with another 50. 50* out of 6/174. Sometimes you just have to reward a guy who is in form. I'd have him and Warner on a plane tomorrow night.

Also Maxwell in. Nice tall, still and correct stance. Looks like he plays nice and straight and gets forward, but when it's in his hitting zone he gives it the treatment. Not generally a fan of Victorians in the Australian side, but these two might require an exception.

Wade was carrying some form of injury yesterday. Impressive effort to bat today and save Victoria again.

How is Mitchell Marsh getting so many wickets? Has he improved out of site recently or something? I haven't been impressed by his bowling at all in the past...

A good innings comes to an end from a screamer. It's a shame he couldn't go on to make a 100 but the 60 should help his push to oust Haddin.

At the moment just going off the figures, but in 11 innings he has 1 ton, 4 fifties and scores at 75/100. Would seem he's still pretty aggressive in fc but is really starting to put a case together. I'm certainly not saying to fly him to SA, but assuming Hussey survives until the end of 12/13 then he may be right in the frame to take that spot at 6. Got another wicket also yesterday, and the abc commentators said he could be a star with the ball. Will keep an eye on him. If he can average high 40s with the bat and mid 30s with the ball then that screams No. 6 to me.

Rohrer is more a joke to slap down the Callum Ferguson fan club. I don't see him as a test player at all, just a very very solid fc player (although after the last test...). The Rohrer joke just becomes even funnier when you've now got Shipperd saying someone like Peter Forrest should play Aus A (as an opener!). Ben Rohrer is just shorthand for "are you really pushing (insert nuffy with sub 40 average here) for test selection?". In the Rohrer test if you are better than Ben you are a shot at test selection, otherwise be thankful for your Shield contract. Currently the Better than Ben list is very thin and of them Lynn has been injured (and needs to prove he can back up his first year), Katich is well we know, Smith is widely hated and still really needs to keep the runs coming this season, Rogers and Dave Hussey are too old, Cosgrove is too fat, Khawaja will play next test and Warner is likely to fly over as cover. That to me is pretty much it. We have some great young kids about like Maddinson, Harris, Maxwell, and maybe even older guys like Finch, Cooper and Forrest who may one day pass the Rohrer test, but they aren't there yet.
Good post. I'm watching the stream now too, only just started watching it, but will continue to do with Wade and Maxwell at the crease. Nice hook for 6 from Maxwell.

Loving the Rohrer test.
Agree, it's very good!

Bowls good lines and has an easy action, I think he's in a bit of a purple patch where in the future he'll have to work harder for his wickets. If he had a bit more height and strength he would be an absolute beast of a bowler in my opinion.

Wade has just gotten out, beautiful catch from Voges, such a good fieldsman.

Just gone for 60 to a screamer of a catch by Voges, but otherwise looked pretty untroubled. Good knock again.

Maxwell does look like he could be a bit compulsive on the hook, but when you land them in the seats that might not be so bad.

Didn't take him long to find form with the bat, started the season slowly but he's quickly picked up where he left off last season.

Goes to tea on 63* with Vic 8/246. Maxwell and Wade have taken the game away from the Warriors and with a 329 lead thoughts of a declaration might even start to cross Hussey's mind if the last two wickets don't fall before the last drinks break.

Good classy knock. This guy looks far too good for No.7 in a Shield side. Needs to move up to 6 at least even if that pushes Wade back one spot. Could possibly bat even higher than that though.

Aaron Finch might get dropped from the Vic Shield team when White returns. MacDonald could probably move down the order if you wanted to move up Maxwell, Wade doesn't deserve to be moved down.

In the OD match, Ferguson out for 12..

but, but, but isn't Finch the guy all the Victorians reckon should replace Hughes in the test side? (or is it Quiney this week?)

Agree Wade doesn't deserve to drop down, but then if I had my way he wouldn't be playing Shield all that often anyway.

They also need to find a spot for Handscomb, he is killing it just made 175 in Grade cricket and was solid in his first 2 matches. Also got Hill and Keath waiting in reserve. Hill has been disappointing as he was on the same path as Hughes but hasn't kicked on at all.
