**Official** Pakistan and Sri Lanka in UAE

Have to say, I think the match-fixing blowup seems to be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan.
To paraphrase a Blackadder line, if it was, it was a very good disguise.

Lovely looking ground, it must be said. However, the fact I'm noticing this doesn't speak wonders of the standard of the cricket.

Factoid: Dilshan has now bowled more overs under his own captaincy (in 6 matches) than he bowled under Sangakkara (in 14 matches), Mahela (in 22 matches) or Attapattu (in 15 matches).
They generally had Murali to call upon to be fair.

I think these sorts of conditions will help Pakistan to be stronger at 'home'. Typically you'll get hot weather and very slow pitches. You don't need the batting technique so much because with good hand-eye coordination you'll be able to adjust most of the time. Reverse swing will be one of the main weapons for seam bowlers. Bowling generally will need a bit of magic/unorthodoxy to knock over batsmen when otherwise nothing much is happening.

horrible batting here grinding the opposition does not mean you sleep on the pitch Pakistan will not be winning many games with Taufiq,Azhar and Misbah in the batting lie up.
It's perfect fine batting given that you only need 60 overs to get rid of sri lanka

Nuwan Pradeep can be brought on from the other end with the new ball. Lakmal doesn't make them play enough for my liking.

EDIT: Commentator's curse. Good channel and making him play so far.

Welegedara to Taufeeq Umar, no run, Huge appeal for lbw as he shoulders arms but the ball comes in. Tony Hill is having a shocker of a match. This hits him on the knee roll, deep n the crease. Would have hit the stumps. Taufeeq fortunate'' this is one awful test match,

especially with Tony Hill's decision to give Dilshan out in the first innings, he must go down as one of the worst umpires with Ashocka De Silva and Billy D and your man from the West Indies, can't think of his name...

Before pak fans lamented players who had no technique and patience, when they get one he is too slow.

He definitely has shots, just give him time to build up runs and confidence, probably needs that century which is a bit if a monkey on his back.

Toffee needs to press on here.
No body wants him to be the next Afridi the problem starts when goes on dead batting half volleys, he will average 5-7 runs less then he deserves due to his over cautious approach.

Hit him above the knee roll, tbf. Not offering a shot made it look worse, but not out for me. Going over.

Yeah, it looks to be a mental thing. The guy's got a voice in his head that says "you've got to knuckle down and wear them out".

No other explanation as to why a player so gifted would be patting back half-volleys with the utmost respect. I'm all for playing percentage cricket, but certain deliveries also need to be put away on merit and by not doing that, you are not doing any favours to your team.

Yeah, agreed with this. Not letting the bowler just bowl whatever he wants is just as important as grinding defence.

yeah I can understand Toffee going slowly since with all due respect he's quite a limited batsman. Azhar on the other hand overdoes it.

a) he has the stokes to put the ball away without getting reckless.

b)neither he is a technical god like Dravid and Kallis who can consistently set stall for 8-10 hours.

Oh, I'm not saying they need to speed up. It just makes for... less than enthralling viewing, as a neutral.
That's pretty much what I was going to post as well. You'd think that it would be a great cure for insomnia since the day of play runs 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. my time, but I've "managed" to stay awake through all of it.

Inside edge through to the keeper and not given. And since we are living in the 18th century, technology cannot help us out here! :@
