'We can't afford to have the states focusing on silverware'
We have to play all the bowlers. ALL OF THEM.

I get the feeling that Katich is on better terms with the NSW selectors than the Aus selectors.i look forward to kat's press conference
Six months? Three years....Jaques would have to be the unluckiest player since Martin Love. He averages in the high 40s in international cricket as an opener, on the back of averaging 50+ in domestic cricket for years, gets injured and then six months later is not only out of international thinking but is being talked about as not even keeping his state spot!
True, but his woes began the moment he had the operation.Six months? Three years....
He meant when he got injured he was out for about 6 months, came back to fitness then there was no spot for him.Six months? Three years....
Yeah I should have clarified by adding "now" before I said he was being talked about losing his state spot.He meant when he got injured he was out for about 6 months, came back to fitness then there was no spot for him.
Three (pretty sure) over age players allowed per team.True, but his woes began the moment he had the operation.
Speaking of, what was he doing playing for the U23s game?

Every other bowler in Aus is in sick bay half the time but never him. I'm worried about the Warriors being stuck with him and his obscene good health sooner rather than later. They'll have to play him.I thought he was in doubt to tour SA because of an injury he'd picked up?
You've just sunk my hopes
WAC
And finally cricinfo have a player page for him. He did look ok in the match on sunday, good on them for picking him, looked to have pretty decent temperament.Handscomb looks to be a talent, 40 on debut OD and now a 50 in Shield. Looks like McDonald will be scoring quickly again this season.
"Ben Rohrer will take the reins for the opening games of the season with O'Keefe in South Africa with Australia's Twenty20 squad."Smith won't be available at all while SOK will only play in the shield match if he gets sent home after the first T20. Our Oder is on the 15th and the Shield 17th. Last T20 match in SA is the 16th. So the team for the first match is easy. It's when Cummins, SOK and Smith return things get tough.
Hughes
Jaques
Usman
Maddinson (They'll have to decide whether they want to open with Maddinson all season or bat him here all season. I've gone middle order)
Katich (He'll float around in the batting order)
Moises
Nev
Hauritz
Copeland
Haze
Starc
12th: Big Ben
Presumably Katch will captain, and then when SOK returns they'll announce the hand over
We'll just have to agree to disagree. Generally you won't get any argument out of me that best 4 bowlers, keeper and best 6 bats (with fingers crossed at least one of them can bowl some useful overs) is the way to go. But in the situation NSW is in I think we can and should take advantage of more attacking options. No, we should pick a whole bunch of batsmen because it balances the side better, and batsmen are not a diseconomy of scale (at least not as much as bowlers are).
The idea behind playing so many ****ing bowlers seems to be purely to get those particular players into the side, rather than because it'll give us the best chance of winning.
Now that one is a shock. I'm a big fan of Rohrer, but surely Kat, or even Uzi if they wanted to look to the future would have been better bets. It does say something that neither Hughes nor Khawaja (nor even Smith) were considered as second in command after SOK. I would have though Usman at least would be someone you'd want to see how leadership fit with an eye to possible replacements for Clarke down the track."Ben Rohrer will take the reins for the opening games of the season with O'Keefe in South Africa with Australia's Twenty20 squad."
