If Asif's lawyer plays it smart he can get away with it.Uptill now no shady text messages or calls no marked NOTW notes its just that one no ball which is against him.

So does this mean Mazhar Majeed is getting away with it, because if that bastard does, I will be furious. He is the one who needs to be thrown in jail.

Butt told police he had been given £2,500 in cash from Majeed 'for opening an ice cream parlour in Tooting', south London (Richard DJ Edwards - Twitter).

£9,500 found in Amir's room by police, including £1,500 in News of the World's £50 notes ...

£8,000 cash found in Asif's rucksack in his room - no money from News of the World. He told police it was his allowance. (Richard DJ Edwards - Twitter).

Asif is a lucky bastard, he is just getting away with everything. So far only the no-ball against him (no texts, recorded conversations, etc).

From memory Asif's no ball wasn't anywhere near as blatant as Amir's was it?

@ Fred, If Asif is found not guilty, can he then have his 5 year ban overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland?

I suppose he might be able to reopen it but I'm assuming they're different situations ie the Crown Court standard of proof is beyond reasonable doubt, and while I don't know for sure I suspect the ICC disciplinary thing was on the balance of probabilities

So am I right in thinking that if the jury doesn't find enough evidence to convict Asif beyond all reasonable doubt of his charges it wouldn't necessarily impact on his conviction from the ICC?
Yeah, the ICC tribunal doesn't require the same standard of proof as a court of law. It'd be somewhat analogous to the OJ Simpson case in a way.

EDIT: Or what Fred already said on the last page.
EDIT2: Speaking of Fred, better reply to that email before I forget again.

Yes but if the only evidence they have against him is the no-ball (which is the only thing at the moment), then how can the ICC be sure that Butt didn't ask him to bowl a no-ball and that he was really involved. If found not guilty he could just go and use this in the CAS.

They've already had a hearing to determine that. Whether or not he's found guilty by a court of law or not isn't really relevant to anything that happened in that hearing because they're working on two completely different standards of proof.

I understand what you're saying, but the possibility of that is not in any way new evidence; it would have been brought up at the ICC hearing and (evidently) rejected by the panel at the time. The fact that there's been a legal trial now doesn't really change anything in regards to that.
