*Official* - India in West Indies

chicane

State Captain
Good knock by Mukund! Looks a more assured reserve opener than Vijay, feel better about him opening in Sehwag's absence.

Come on, England!
As a WI fan, I usually quite like Indian cricket, and would normally be neutral during a series like this. But the level of contempt shown by Indian cricketers towards the Test and/or ODI tour of the Caribbean has so soured the feelings of me and a number of my friends (also WI fans) that we'll all be cheering for England this series....

Yes, WI cricket is crap these days, but we certainly didn't need a number of Indian 'stars' to rub our noses in it. The fact that they did means that we'll be cheering every time a certain Indian player is bowled, or a certain Indian bowler is hit for six.

Here's our blacklist:

1) Sachin Tendulkar - missed both Test and ODI series, and yet found time to play IPL.
2) MS Dhoni - played the Tests, but chose to miss the ODI series, and yet found time to play the IPL.
3) Gautam Gambhir - ill-advisedly risked injury playing IPL, and got injured, and so missed WI tour. Clearly, IPL was more important to him.
4) Zaheer Khan - played IPL, missed Caribbean tour.
5) Virender Sehwag - ill-advisedly risked injury playing IPL, and got injured, and so missed WI tour. Clearly, IPL was more important to him.
6) Yuvraj - not convinced that his respiratory infection was so bad that he had to miss the entire Test and ODI tour of the Caribbean. It was very convenient that he could play the entire IPL and is now fit to play in England.

We will all be cheering any time any of those six fare badly....

Our commiserations to Kohli and Vijay, who had the courage to tour the Caribbean, but suffered as a result, and didn't make the tour of England. Yuvraj benefitted from the selectors by avoiding facing the fire of Rampaul and Edwards.

We're all united in acknowledging Rahul Dravid as our favourite Indian batsman, with Laxman a close second, and we hope this duo does well. Good luck also to Mukund, if he gets a chance.

And may Harbhajan, Munaf, Ishant and Praveen all get wickets....

But in the end, we really hope England wins.

We cannot waste this chance to bat West Indies out of the series. A nice score of 400 should do the trick.

am just glad we sent a weakened team. it'd been embarrassing otherwise.
Us WIndies fans know that the team is crap, but at least Pakistan showed us the respect of sending us a more-or-less full strength team. But the level of contempt shown by half a dozen Indian cricketers towards Windies cricket has left quite a few of us with a sour taste in our mouths, and if we had any doubt about the upcoming series in England, this behaviour has convinced my friends and I to be England fans for this series in particular....

No matter how bad we were, Australia always fielded the best team possible to play the West Indies. That's why we feel that the teams of Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting (yes, that Ponting!) have more class than this current Indian setup.

But that's just a WI view of India - you don't have to care one way or another. However, if this tour was designed to win fans of Indian cricket in the Caribbean, on the contrary, India have lost quite a few fans in the Caribbean.

I love Bishoo. He should take some tips from Warne, I really believe he has potential for greatness.

It wasn't...I mean no tour is. The tour is there to play cricket.

Yes this is a second string side but aside from SRT, everyone is injured, so I don't know how you're making this claim....

Yuvraj is injured, Gambhir was injured, Sehwag is still going to be injured in England and Zaheer is always injured. So I'm not sure who you're talking about except SRT. I don't think one guy qualifies as showing disrespect.

He's done after this Test match hopefully.
Given up on him already? :) Not long from now, we won't have Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman (possibly Sehwag as well) and someone has to come in.

FFS, don't give away a ****ing run out please.

I've never backed him so I can't really give up on him.

Man, I've read quite a few of your posts and have respect for you as a fair voice from the Caribbean islands.

In this instance, however, I think you are taking a few professional decisions a bit too personally. Men like Tendulkar, Sehwag and Zaheer - given the stage where they are in their careers - have a fair right to pick and choose their tours, especially when their choices are CONGRUENT with national interests.

That does not necessarily mean I agree with their decisions, but as prudent high-class professionals, I cannot deny them the right to make one. People have been sending weakened teams to Bangaldesh and Zimbabwe in the past and we've all accepted that in our stride.

I understand that your pride would be hurt given the great legacy of West Indian cricket. But look at it from a professional perspective. Important players of Nation A decide that the subsequent tour with Nation C is more important and therefore, decide to give a not-so-challenging tour of Nation B a miss. It's a decision based on cold tactical professional discretion.

The only place where I would use the word contempt is in BCCI's attitude towards test cricket. When they start a test series without any practice matches to cram in more games in their schedule - is both utterly unprofessional and demeaning to test players.

And as we all understand, money can buy you privileges but professional respect has to be earned. India and Pakistan did not have the professional respect of the cricketing world for a long time. And that's fair enough, in my books. IMHO, if you are not worth it, you don't have a reason to demand respect (however on may define the term). And that's a formula I apply uniformly to all nations.

Just to build up on my previous post. There is a need (globally) for greater objectivity when it comes to understanding professional decisions. In matters of logic, head must take precedence over the heart.

India, England and South Africa may well be club-level teams 50 years from now. Could well be that Bangladesh lead world cricket then and feel that investing enough for a lowly-ranked India may not be worth their while.

It should be viewed as a hard-nosed professional decision and the fact that India produced Gavaskar and Tendulkar in the past should be none of Bangladesh's bloody concern when project economics and optimising national interests are concerned. It's the way of the world. If you are mediocre, you'd be brushed aside and the race must go on!

The key then lies on using that as a motivation and fighting to remain competitive. As I said previously, let no man assume that professional respect is his heaven-ordained birthright and realise the fact that it has to be earned the hard way.
