To say money rules the hearts of all cricketers is a very big assumption.
maybe true,

but still isnt correct to judge them based on their decision to play based on money they get.

a person like sachin has little to prove. he is a ****ing 170 tests veteran and a 450 odi champ, a world cup winner and nearly a ton tons under his belt all for hois country. I find it extremely laughable when people talk abt him as a mercenary and all that.

fact is it is upon wi to prove they are a team to reckon with, prove they belong and command attention and respect of the top teams. in that respect alone, i'd like them to defeat us in the upcoming test series. because that will certainly be a wake up call for the guys in bcci to sit up and take notice of the schedules. they may be cash hungry, but heck no they arent stupid. the one and only reason why sachin is resting because bcci thinks wi is not strong enough to pose that a challenge in his absence. wi need to take this as a snub in the right spirit and challenge and prove bcci and sachin wrong.

just being a member of the icc shouldnt automatically entitle one to full respect of the other top test teams. ask bangladesh that.

Interesting comments by Gavaskar....

Gavaskar bats for India over IPL - Hindustan Times

Basically, he's saying that the Indian players who chose IPL over playing for their country should be punished by the selectors. In other words, don't pick them for future tours, i.e. the tour of England.
have lost respect for this fellow after his comment on india's' future coach to be a north indian because the team is composed of mostly north indians.

In news unrelated to India, Gayle and Jerome Taylor won't be playing in the initial limited over stuff. Neither will Barath or Roach or Edwards

Did they all play against Pakistan ?

Roach has been rested for the first leg of the series ,while Barath is still injured and the rest were not picked .

West Indies Squad for the 1st and 2nd Digicel Pearls ODIs:
Darren Sammy – Captain
Dwayne Bravo – Vice Captain
Carlton Baugh
Devendra Bishoo
Darren Bravo
Kirk Edwards
Anthony Martin
Kieron Pollard
Ravi Rampaul
Andre Russell
Marlon Samuels
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Lendl Simmons

Selection notes:

1. Kemar Roach is being rested for the Trinidad leg of the West Indies v India Series 2011. It is expected that other players with heavy workloads will also be rested and rotated from time to time throughout the West Indies v India Series 2011 and moving forward.

2. Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are not eligible to represent the West Indies in T20 format as they did not take part in the last edition of the Caribbean Twenty20. (The WICB Selection Criteria outline that for a player to be eligible for selection to the West Indies team he must participate in the corresponding format of the game at the regional level.)

3. Although he has been allowed to return to low intensity cricket in Trinidad Adrian Barath is still undergoing rehabilitation and an assessment will be done during the Trinidad leg of the West Indies v India Series 2011. A decision on his return to international cricket will be taken following the assessment and it is hoped he will be available for the Digicel Test Series – West Indies v India.

4. Chris Gayle will not be considered for selection to the West Indies team before an intended meeting with himself, the Selection Committee, the WICB Management and the West Indies Team Management. The Selection Committee views this meeting as necessary as a result of Gayle’s comments in a widely publicized radio interview in Jamaica.

5. The Selection Committee is of the view that Jerome Taylor is required to play a full season of regional cricket in order to prove his fitness to compete adequately at the international level before being considered for selection.

Not sure why they didn't give Edwards a go in the ODI series, the fifth note would imply that Taylor will take no part in the ODI's or tests, hopefully the issue with Gayle can get sorted in this interview, but knowing the WICB, some nonsensical issue will arise as to why Gayle can take no part in the whole tour... Barath and Gayle opening, Simmons at three, Bravo, Chanders, Samuels... As good a top six as we've had in a while IMO

Taylor probably does not make the test side in any case at the moment with Rampaul bowling well and Sammy captain.

And you would drop Nash and Sarwan for Simmons and Samuels?

Don't think Jigga rates Sarwan

Don't have a problem with Roach being rested for some of the initial limited overs stuff, but I don't understand Fedwards not being brought in to replace him. I do wonder about JT though. I didn't watch the IPL but he did like to break down during the Windies FC comp

Senior Bravo not playing is probably a good thing too

It's not necessarily what Jigga would do, but what the WICB has actually done....

"There was also no room for Jerome Taylor, who like Gayle claimed the WICB failed to contact him about how he was recovering from an injury until after he had departed for the IPL. The selection committee said in the statement that Taylor must play a full season of regional cricket to prove his fitness for international level."

The WICB continues to spite Taylor for choosing to play in the IPL....
8-)
Haven't they learnt from the BCCI, which allows about half a dozen players to choose the IPL over aspects of a Test and ODI tour of the Caribbean?

The issue is not Tendulkar et al being rested from a tour of the Caribbean, but the fact that they chose to play in the IPL, and then chose to be rested from a Test and ODI tour, clearly indicating that the IPL is more important to them than international cricket....

The issue is not whether or not these youngsters can beat the WIndies with or without Tendulkar.

The difference between the boards is simply this....

The BCCI allows half a dozen players to give the IPL priority over a Test and ODI tour of the Caribbean.

The WICB continues to punish Gayle and Taylor for doing the same.

Anderson was injured.

It's not that I dont rate Sarwan, he's proven class, but if I were to ask you, who's more likely to make runs out of him and Simmons, in the first innings of a test match against India then you'd pick the latter... Simmons getting over his technical flaws have really helped him realise some of his potential. Samuels needs sticking with, Nash has been a valuable part of the team for the last couple years, but Samuels scored a crap load of runs in domestic cricket and was one of the few to make a score of note in the Pak series... I can understand the temptation to put Sarwan in, given the fact he's a proven player of spin, but given the line up, if Gayle and Barath play, dont really see where he fits in...

No Edwards and no Ramdin annoy me though, surely you want to test where Edwards stacks up in International cricket?!

Sehwag stopped IPL when the chances of him missing out England popped up. Granted it was after his team was knocked out. IPL is big in India but not International cricket big and never will be.

If Windies can win the tour, then I really doubt BCCI would again send a half assed team to the Carribean. The point is, we aren't complaining about Sachin prioritizing IPL over Windies simply because we know Sachin isn't important to win this tour.

Relax guys, Sachin is just skipping the West Indies tour so he can get his hundreth 100 at Lord's with me in the stands watching :D

T20 tomorrow!

I'd go with...
1. Shikhar Dhawan
2. Parthiv Patel (wk)
3. Suresh Raina
4. Virat Kohli
5. S Badrinath
6. Rohit Sharma
7. Yusuf Pathan
8. R Ashwin
9. Harbhajan Singh
10. Munaf Patel
11. Ishant Sharma

I honestly back that team to beat West Indies in a T20, 5 times out of 5, but we'll see I guess.

Make a window for the damn thing and problem solved.

Not that I see it happening.
A window will not solve the problem any way. As far as India is concerned, there is already a window in place. These mercenaries have not skipped the WI tour because of a clash in dates with the IPL.

Players who prefer playing in a cash rich circus over representing the nation - because of physical or mental exhaustion or because of lack of fitness - should not be selected for the national side again. Till they go back prove their physical/mental fitness in domestic FC cricket first.

Not that I see that happening either. With cricket being run a la WWE by the circus owners and managers.

In simple terms, Sachin will be there when India needs him. In this tour, the BCCI and himself think and feel that it is more advantageous to team India that they give others a chance and they rest him for the England tour. Therefore, they do not need him. If this comes across as insulting to WI cricket then they have to show it on the field. I sincerely hope they do and it turns out to be an excellent series with both sides playing good cricket.

I just realised that the 20/20 is being played at the ridiculous 20/20 time of 10am in Trinidad....
This is apparently being done to accommodate TV viewers in India. So, Trinidadian spectators don't matter, then? And to make it more farcical, the feature match at 2pm will be between Trinidad and an academy XI....
