you know, I actually opened cricinfo and checked the scorecard again, and to my surprise mumbai indians won the match!Rayudu has the second most number of fifties this season - not overrated at all. His overall strike rate may be low (for the record, Tendulkar's is only 109), but Rayudu found the boundary more often than not when Mumbai needed it. You don't send a tail-ender over an in-form batsman when you have as few as twenty overs to work with. Your best batsmen/best hitters should get as much time in the middle as possible. And no, the Harbhajan move didn't work. Just because Franklin and Rayudu pulled off something extra-ordinary in the last over doesn't mean the move worked.
I'm sure Nita Ambani has no say in team selection/batting order etc. I doubt if even the coach has much of a say; pretty sure it's Tendulkar through and through. Mumbai made a similar mistake even in the last IPL final. They sent Harbhajan in at three, and when Pollard walked in to bat, Mumbai needed around 50-55 in three overs!

got to love the dichotomy. warne, who has proved that his first ipl was nothing but fluke, gets nothing like this on this forum. I know it.s cool to criticise tendulkar, but fact is he has led mi to last 4 everytime he had a full stint. I think the only cap who has a better record than him is msd, who of course is the best captain, no shame in that.
agree, his captaincy has been truly wierd at times, but I believe his move to push harby did work, for they were really under pressure to chase down such a big total. and harby through hook or crook provided them a fillip, momentum which may not reflect in his sr. but I think mi were going well at abt 9 an over when he got out, so yep he did his job.
its also aimed at giving harby some much needed batting stint under pressure. he is no mug with the bat, and I believe he is underutilised.
still I dont think MI are favs. I will be surprised if they make the finals, but as msd said, in ipl the primary job of the captain is to ensure the last 4 after which its all a lottery.
You haven't seen Yuvraj Singh captain a side then.Haven't watched this game; but Tendulkar is amongst the most inept of captains that I've ever seen. In any form of the game, at any level.
Astonishing really, considering that he knows how to use his brain better than most others when he's batting. Make him captain a side and he promptly dons the dunce's cap.
I am sorry.. very very hard to convince that 30 off 28 was a success from a pinch hitter.. I mean, that is not a success even in fifty overs cricket..Sending Harbhajan up was a terrible move on paper, and should by all accounts have failed. But in reality, I have to agree with Bun that it didn't go all that badly. MI were going very well at the stage he was dismissed. The quick wickets of Sharma and Tendulkar following his dismissal were what set MI back (and Pollard also swallowed quite a few dot balls). Rajat Bhatia bowled a very economical spell around that time.
Yep, remember he did something like that and held Pollard back way too long.Didn't Sachin send in Harbhajan in the IPL final last year? Wasn't that a disaster, or am I remembering it incorrectly?

Yes, safe to say it cost them the match. even wierd was asking a nayar to bat so high.Didn't Sachin send in Harbhajan in the IPL final last year? Wasn't that a disaster, or am I remembering it incorrectly?
no, no denying that.Do you deny that Sachin's captaincy hurt Mumbai in the IPL final last year?
If you do then you're blindly defending him because he is Sachin.
Lord knows I (just like many others) are huge Sachin fans. But he isn't always the best captain. I don't think he's the worst by any stretch. But he's not great.
