Excuse my ignorance...it seems to me that one of Pune fielders is wearing some sort of earpiece transmitter?

The commentators talk to one of the fielders for a brief period when the game is in progress. Kind of running comments on how the game is going.

Rahul Sharma has not conceded more than 29 runs in the IPL and on four occasions less than 15 (including today). No wonder he leads the ER among the main bowlers, at 5.16 and about 0.4 clear of the next guy (Vettori).Taken 13 wickets too in 10 games, so not a shabby SR either.

Its only the IPL, but a tall legspinner who relies on bounce is a formula that has worked well for India.May just be the find of this IPL. season.

Thanks for explanation .)

But isnt this going a bit too far? What possibly can a player tell during a match that viewers didnt hear 1000 times before? Imho useless feature.

You're right, there's nothing. But then that's T20 cricket for you, it's all about the gimmicks. :)

Yep.

Some of the matches specially between the mediocre teams are getting a bit too much now.

Pointless group stage. 90 games. Show some common sense for once BCCI and split it into groups FFS.

I've not followed the IPL at all,so i'm not too clear on the number of matches each team is playing this time around. There are 10 teams,so everyteam has to play the other team once.Or does every team play the other one both home and away?

Also,is it going to be a final between the top 2 teams in the group or will there be semis too?

Each team plays everyone else home and away, 90 league games in all. Top 4 qualify for the semis.

There's no semi-final as such. They are using a format that was apparently used in the New Zealand domestic circuit last year. Top four qualify for the play-offs - one plays two and the winner goes straight through to the final; three plays four and the winner of that game plays the loser of the first one. The winner of that one goes to the final.

For example :

1)Mumbai
2)Kolkata
3)Bangalore
4)Chennai

Match 1 : Mumbai vs Kolkata - (say) Mumbai win, they go straight to the final.
Match 2 : Bangalore vs Chennai - (say) Chennai win. Bangalore gets knocked out. Chennai plays Kolkata in Match 3.
Match 3 : Chennai vs Kolkata

The winner of that match plays Mumbai in the final. This format basically ensures that you don't get eliminated because of one bad match, if you've done well in the group stages.

So the loser of match 1 plays the winner of match 2 to decide who reaches the final? I guess the benefit of finishing first or second is that you need to win just two knockout games to win the title, with the possibility of losing the first "semifinal". If you finish 3rd or 4th, you need to win 3 knockouts in a row. Hmm. The drawback is that the first "semifinal" could turn out to be a dress rehearsal of the final. Not really a fan of that.

I dont think thats true, there are 10 teams in IPL and each team will play only 14 games in the league stage, if they are playing each other home and away they should play 18 games in league stage.

On wikipedia I found this :
The ten teams are divided into two groups of five. In the group stage, each team plays 14 games: facing the other four teams in their group two times each (one home and one away game), four teams in the other group once, and the remaining team two times. A random draw was used to determine the groups and who plays whom across the groups once and twice.
Each team plays the team in the same row and the same column twice, and all others once. For instance, Pune Warriors will play Chennai Super Kings and the other Group A teams twice but the other teams from Group B (Kolkata Knight Riders, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals) only once. Similarly Kochi Tuskers Kerala will play Delhi Daredevils and the other Group B teams twice but all other teams from Group A only once.

Group A : Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, KXIP, Pune Warriors India, Mumbai Indians

Group B : Kolkata Knight Riders, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, RCB, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings

I like the play offs, ensures you get some sort of reward for being consistently at the top.

 Shows you what I know. So 70 league games in all, and not 90.
 Two days back even I was thinking that there will be 90 league matches, then my friend told me that each time will play 14 games each in league stage, then I found out that there will be 70 league matches
