Surprised that Smith hasn't had a trundle, this would usually be the exact situation - well, RRR notwithstanding - that Clarke has given him one or two "shock" overs in.

EDIT: And just as I post that.

Tbf he doesn't even belong in the Test side, so whatever role they decide to play him as will always seem as a joke. But I like him in the limited overs because he does offer a bit of everything.
When you say something like that do you even realise that Smith is a guy who scored 4 or 5 FC centuries a couple of seasons ago and he is also one of the few spinners in the country to have a couple of 8-fers in a game during that period.

I believe the inability to find a proper role for Smith in both the test and LO sides is the reason why we haven't seen the best of him yet.

Honestly though that's because no one agrees what his proper role should be. Some people think he should become a specialist spinner who is an extremely useful lower order batsman. Other people think he should become a batting all-rounder whose aim is the #6 spot.

That' surprising for me because Clarke has always backed him as bowler whether it was the T20 worldcup or the seven-game series against England, Clarke always has used him as an attacking option.

These days though he is almost like a last resort bowler and that's really sad because he despite him being a work in progress is a far better attacking option than many current Australian bowlers in this line-up.

To be quite honest I would not read anything at all into the bowling tactics wrt to who's used. It's painfully obvious the philosophy is "give everyone a go". Besides which he's had a bowl now anyway.

In the NSW side he has been batting in the top 4-5 and then bowling good amount of overs as well, now I don't see why letting him do the same thing in an Australian shirt should be so hard.

Because he's just not good enough to bat in the top 5? I understand that his lack of a proper ODI innings is largely down to coming in at #7, but can we really say he deserves to go in the top 5 ahead of the current incumbents, or even fringe players like Marsh or Ferguson who have ODI hundreds to their name?

Edit: 4 overs, 0-29 is also less than convincing.

Am I reading this right?

John Wayne Hastings got a hattrick? WAG. Should've played a WC game.

And now Cam White gets a bowl

Ummm...

CJ Ferguson 0.4 0 1 0 1.50

Pup?

Okay, it was just cricinfo being mad. Ferguson didn't actually bowl an over.

Cricinfo's scorecard is royally ****ed. Apparently they're going at 5 an over... with the top SR being <70.

When you say something like that do you realize that his performance at FC "a couple of seasons ago" is not really enough reason to bat him in the top 6 in the Test side? Especially given the fact that he hasn't done anything else or have a history of good batting performances. Do you also realize that getting 8 wickets in 1 match (especially if you seen that match, he bowled half trackers and the batsmen threw away their wickets in dirty slogs) is not going to compensate for his awful bowling stats?

Haha, before it said that Ferguson was bowling, it said that Tim Paine was about to send down some right arm mediums...I think that alone would've cost this match its List A status.

White bowled 4 for 13. Interesting to see if he gets used as a part time bowler now clarkes in charge. I'm also wondering if Johnson will get used as a pinch hitter more by clarke in the ODI's.
Also i'm not surprised Hastings bowled well (even if it was only a warm up match). His changes of pace seemed like they'd suit sub continent pitches as an alternative to every one of our bowlers trying to bowl quick. Need to be able to take the pace off in ODI's and our spinners weren't good enough for that in the WC. I woulda run him over Krejza after the first few matches.

This is an outright lie. What a joke.
