Awesome to see Jaques back as well, although whether this puts him back in line for his old spot is another question.

Surprising declaration that. I guess it's aggressive, but surely you'd have wanted an extra 30 or 40 on the board?

Argh Hughesy.

Bloody hell, two misses in two overs! Could be the Shield right there.

It was just stupid IMO. It actually gave them less time to bowl Tasmania out. It's all well and good giving yourselves just over a day in theory but when you only set the opposition 200 it's always going to be a bit less than that as they'll chase it down before stumps. Should've either accelerated earlier or batted on a bit longer.

Was discussing this today, does anyone know if Cummins is allowed to bowl more than 20 overs in a day due to NSW cricket age restrictions?
Age restrictions aren't relevant once you hit FC cricket. Their benefit is a whole other discussion - I reckon there a joke, and it's being highlighted by how many injuries we are getting with quick bowlers in their mid 20's now whos bodies don't have enough miles under the belt to cope with the amount of cricket played.

Katich's declaration interesting - probably figured that it was the only sort of total Tassie would have a real crack at (anything more they probably would have just batted the day out, as they don't need to win the game to win the Sheild). If they took at least 1 or 2 of the 3 chances tonight they'd be right in the game. Chasing those 200-ish total can be harder to chase mentally than 270+, cause you're expected to get them. Don't reckon it was that badder call.

In other shocking developments, I agree with Andre.

Easy from here saying they should have accelerated but maybe the bowling was too good or the pitch too awkward. If blokes like Hughes and Jaques are having trouble teeing off, you'd have to wonder about the conditions at least.

Batting on longer wasn't much of an option, in my book. Just gives Tas extra incentive to bat out the last day. This way, they still feel like they've got something to play for other than the Shield. NSW have already had a few chances so the declaration did exactly what it was likely intended to do (that they weren't good enough to take them is a separate matter). This way, there's still tension in the game.

Onya Katto, I like it.

Yep the onus is on NSW to win the match, no point in making it too easy for Tassie to just bat out day 5, whether NSw lose or draw it doesnt matter. Seems a lot of people dont understand that Tassie only have to draw to take the Shield, up to NSW to do whatever they can to win, so yeah it was a risky but probably good declaration by Katich. History doesnt seem to care who won or drew shield finals, only who ended up with the shield, and thats how it should be.

haha, yeah much to the chagrin of WA fans circa 95/96.

Love the Katman more than life itself, but his declaration was baffling. If Tasmania get the runs, they'll get them by tea time. NSW should therefore have batted on to get another 70 or 80.

Anyway, what a gun Cummins is. Isn't it great to see a young guy not molly-coddled. Chucked into a Shield final, asked to bowl all day - love it. None of this 'loading', 'resting', '***** footin'.

Let 'em play, just let 'em play.

Copeland great too.

There was talk yesterday of rain being expected later on today in Hobart. Probably had a bit to do with it.

We wouldn't be questioning it if those two catches were taken. We'd be saying it was a genius move.

How long does O'Keefe have to keep going before he gets a Test call up?
He's played more FC games and taken basically twice as many wickets as Michael Beer and he somehow got a call up.
