So why am I sitting with 5 extra points?
Because you went a step further.

If you quote a post and point out that think it's bull****, explain why etc - I think that's fine because that's just aggressive debating of the issue. But when you say someone has been posting **** for two weeks and has disgraced themselves, that makes it personal, and we don't want that here.

Well, I'm telling you know, if someone comes to us with "I can't get an infraction because so and so did something vaguely similar and didn't get one" we're going to be ignoring it. Every time.
So you're not going to apply the rules consistently?

It's bloody-mindedness at its best isn't it. Saving face is more important than doing a good job running the forum.

How many infraction points for forum atmosphere? Think the mods need a few

The Wheel is Forever
I'm leaving for vacation in a day or two so I won't contribute to this thread for a while but I thought maybe it's time to interject some facts since people seem to be going off one way or another in absence of data.

I thought it might be worthwhile to figure out how many people have been infracted for a lack of respect, insulting, harrassment, or for trolling and baiting (the two biggest areas of contentions it seems).

I might have gotten the searching slightly off (I think we started the forums to track infraction slightly after the system went live), but if I'm right, so far:

  1. 5 separate people have infractions for lack of respect, insulting, or harassment (2 Indian supporters, 2 UK supporters, 1 I'm not sure).
  2. 6 separate people have infractions for trolling or baiting (4 Indian supporters, 2 UK supporters)

Other moderators may want to double check, I just did a quick count. Draw whatever (or don't draw) conclusions about our bias you wish. That's total, since the infraction system started, that's apparently hurting so many people on the site.

As for 'saving face', we've already made changes based on feedback and we've also reversed multiple infractions when we thought we were wrong. If you disagree, well that's fine and you can say so again, but I am not going to argue - use this in whatever way you wish.

Yet you won't change an infraction that is IDENTICAL to another post. Not a ****ing vaguely similar one like Cribb is making out. Here are my facts:

1. My post said all Cevno's posts were **** and that he was the most annoying poster on the site. Furball said that tendulkar200 guy disgraced himself with each post he made. So basically, we both labelled all their posts ****.
2. We both had prior infractions for the 'harassment' rule
3. The posts were dealt with differently

So here's what makes it bloody-minded. Not only will you not change the decision, when it's blatantly obvious you should. But you are all desperately clinging to weak as piss justifications. And then Cribb comes out and says the mods will not review infractions on the basis of consistency! Haha, why the **** have them then?

It's not really about the 5 points, I'm sure Furball will live. It's the message it sends about the way you guys do things and the damaging precedent it sets for the future.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
ffs, this is a cricket forum, not parliament or the UN. Get the **** over it everyone, even if it's a poor system.

Yeah, it's not the only thing worth worrying about. What's your point?
Seems like a lot of time and effort arguing something that is to me quite trivial, but then this whole forum is based on trivial arguments and whatnot, so I'll concede that a good system of moderation for a place where people come to discuss their passion or past-time is needed.

Gimh, (and I say this quite seriously - not taking the piss) have you considered getting together with other posters (non-mods) to come up with an alternative system to the infraction points one? I'm sure if enough posters got behind something that was really well thought out, it might be installed.

Well, you'd hope so anyway.

TBH mate I'm not actually opposed to infractions per se, check earlier in the thread and I was in favour of their implementation.

What I am against is:

1. The new forum rules and ridiculous definitions of insults
2. The poor communication skills of the moderation team via email (not when communicating off the record)
3. Inconsistent infractions
4. Bloody-minded mods refusing to budge even when clearly wrong

Basically what Spark said about 10 or so pages back.

The system should make things easier for mods, and if they stuck to just using warnings it would be fine. The problem with the system is the completely arbitrary points value given for offences.

Wow !! What else is left to be said ? IMO This is the worst ever thread on moderation in the history of CW and quite honestly I think this is one of the best moderation team in the CW during my time in CW.

First they were accused of racial bias and then several others things and now the above. All that in lieu of the excellent service they provide you for free and implement a system based on your feedback and still not enough..

Have been to many forums and mods on this forum are clearly the best by miles and miles...and yes that is including the current Mods. That is one thing that clearly separates this forum from millions of others by quite a distance.
