would much rather see Moffat batting 6 or something, throwing him to the wolves by opening at this stage i think.
Yeah possibly but SACA obviously have him pegged as an opener; he bats there for Sturt, did for Futures and took the first ball against NSW and Vic. Can't think of anyone else who should open with Harris (assuming he gets picked) right now.

Bats 3 or 4 for Sturt, always been a middle order player. Would rather see Klinger to open and Ferg to 3.
Ferg should be at 3 anyway, and Klinger opening wouldn't really make a difference given that he comes in at 1 for **** all every innings anyway.

Hmmm, is that a relatively new thing that he not open for Sturt? May be mixing him up with someone else.

And, in fairness, Klinger and Harris did open together at U/19 level so it's not completely out of the question.

Harris played for Australia Under 19s? Or did he spend some time in Victoria and open up for them?

Looked up Moffat's record for you and he definitely hasn't opened for Sturt in any format since they've been putting the games on mycricket properly in 2008/09, so that's two and a half seasons basically. He's been exclusively at 3 this season and had batted a bit at 4 a 6 previous seasons.

I swear there was another Moffatt at some point who opened for Glenelg or something. Eh, it's been a while since I was playing so don't keep up with it as well as I used to.

Harris played Aus U/19's, did a tour of England.
ITSTL; doesn't really strike me as someone who was a junior star.

Played junior rep cricket from all the way from U/13's I'm pretty sure. Played some early Shield cricket after that U/19's tour but took a long time to come back to state cricket.

It happens that sometimes form in juniors doesn't translate higher, JackTheMac will tell you about a bloke who's all over the record books for junior rep cricket, Geoff Parker.

Who?!

Exactly.

There's a few chunks of Harris' picture missing, not all the scorecards are up online.

Yeah, junior stars going missing isn't that uncommon; it was more a comment about his batting strengths and weaknesses than his actual quality. He always struck me as a moderately talented individual (by professional sporting standards, anyway) who knew his game pretty well but didn't have the refinement or coached technique the system usually gives a player - typically the sort of thing you'd associate with a late-bloomer who forced his way in through grade runs. To learn he's been in the Australian system since such an early age surprises me a bit.

He looks a bit more coached when he plays Shield cricket from what I've seen (as opposed to his limited overs batting) but he still stands out to me as someone who'd be a bit of a grade bully. Interesting.

Frightening stuff.

These are the same CA Director geniuses that brought us:

- Split innings cricket in a World Cup year – what a hit this format has been!

- The mind boggling decision to order Bollinger and Hussey to play Champions League, instead of prepare for a Test in India

- A three-year contract extension for Tim Neilsen, despite the team’s dismal performances under his watch

Any climb back up the Test rankings (from our current position of fifth) is hard enough.

It’s almost impossible though when you have do it in the face of the bumbling CA Directors

Moffat's actually been dropped; Smith is back. They've named 13:

Michael Klinger (captain)
Aiden Blizzard
Rob Cassell
Daniel Christian
Callum Ferguson
Peter George
Daniel Harris
Jake Haberfield
Nathan Lyon
Graham Manou
Aaron O’Brien
Kane Richardson
James Smith

In: Harris, Haberfield, Lyon, Manou, Smith
Out: Cooper (ICC Cricket World Cup duties), Edmondson (injury), Ludeman (omitted), Moffat (omitted)

Reckon Haberfield and Richardson will both miss out from that lot.

DWTA. No way will they go in with two spinners with the weather we've got coming, especially since Richardson's bowling well.

Surely.

Lyon 12th, I'd guess.

Maybe O'Brien will miss out - Richardson and Lyon can bat a bit (both would definitely get nosebleeds at eight, admittedly) and Christian's in decent batting form (in formats he's always batted much better in, admittedly). Long shot definitely, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I think it'd be a shame for Lyon to miss out. I know virtually nothing about Cassell's batting; what's he like? Jack?

Some handdy runs this year and scored some more in the last Futures game.

If O'Brien's not batting well, his value to the side decreases quite a bit (and he's not batting well). But with the conditions likely to be more friendly to the swing bowlers, reckon it's a straight shoot-out between O'Brien and Lyon and I'd guess the selectors would back O'Brien as a better option because he's a better bat. Certainly since Ferguson won't be playing now, they'll need all the batting they can get.

Well Ferguson got named in that team; maybe they won't add another batsman to it and it'll just be him+Haberfield to miss out.

That leaves;

Harris
Smith
Klinger
Blizzard
Manou
O'Brien
Christian
Richardson
Cassel
Lyon
George

*shudder* Manou at 5....

Guessing;

Harris
Smith
Klinger
Blizzard
Borgas
Manou
O'Brien
Christian
Richardson
Cassel
George

I dunno, we'll see I guess but it would be bucking several years of SACA conservatism to pick a debutant specialist spinner in a game where it might be pissing down for most of it, let alone two spinners.

Bit worried that Borgas has used up his One-Good-Knock-Per-Year card too. Lots of unknowns in that team; Harris scored well in the T20's but he wasn't hitting them at all well the other night so is he in form? Smith got a score in the Futures game but it wasn't a massive score so is he in form? Is Richardson up to being one of the main wicket-takers? Is Christian really batting better this year or is it a LO thing?

Luckily they're only playing WA.
