Ryder on for a big one here, got a chance early, and is now savagely laying into Tanvir. They seem to be targeting the left-armer.
i hope your right, but i doubt it.

Ryder is like a shark, and once he senses blood in the water he goes into an irrational feeding frenzy. My money is on him skying one soon.

AWTA. If they don't go down that route then someone like Rob Nicol would be hard to go past with the performances he has put down lately. 442 runs @ 63.12 and 12 wickets @ 20.75. I still want Williamson persisted with tbh and i think it will be a good time for him to be a constant when Styris is gone because he is that sort of player and Styris seems to be part of the reason KW is so low on confidence.

Ryder is going insane out there.
I agree on Nicol. Theres a lot of plusses for his inclusion. He really was the forgotten man in the WC squad.... i would of even been pro his inclusion at the expense of woodcock

I agree on KW too. Wait till the pig is gone, and then get him back in. He's a guy who ideally will one day bat three for us and play that anchor role.

May have been tempted to delay the bowling powerplay for a while. I know sides like to get them out of the way, but would have set the field back a touch to try and frustrate one of these two out before going for the powerplay. 72 off the first 10 suggests they might continue attacking with the field up.

That said, Gul come into the attack and mightn't be so easy to get away.

Well he has already done the damage. If he scores another 20-30 runs we should be in for a good total. That's assuming the middle order don't dry up the runs and butcher it like they normally do.

The funny thing is both these guys are actually in pretty good form atm. With Guptill having a decent series and Ryder scoring a nice fifty in his last legit innings.

Awesome. Been calling for Ryder to bat three for ages and he's doing this.

So far he's done a great job. Touch wood he brings it home.

This is awesome. A confident Ryder is just what this team desperately needs going into the WC.

another 20 or 30 runs? way to set your expectations low....

the guy bats #3. The goal needs to be him scoring hundreds. If he wants to go out and blaze 30's and 40's he can bat at 6.

brings it home? Another ten overs would do me tbh..Heard in the last game that he has only batted for 20 overs once.

He is on 46 now lol
And?

He needs to look at another 54 runs +

This isnt T20. Theres plenty of time for him to go 'coo coo for cocoa pops' in the later stages. The Guy deals to Tanvir with 3 massive sixes... and what does he do? Tries to go for a 4th and skies it, nearly getting himself out. Not what we need.

Guptill for me is playing the anchor role and he really is the one to play through the innings. If Ryder can bat until the 25th over we would be something like 150/2. I would take that considering our recent performances. Taylor and Styris have struggled to accumulate a SR so we need someone like Ryder to take the pressure off them before they step out onto the pitch.

I can just see it now:

NZ Selector #1: "So Brendon failed at the top of the order, and Ryder is playing well at 3. Obviously Brendon has to go down to 6-7, and Ryder should open again."
NZ Selector #2: "I couldn't agree more."
NZ Selector #3: "You know what they say about great minds......"

Then they get back to their threesome.

Ryder's got a very good start, already on fifty, must continue being positive but doesn't need to do anything crazy. He has to go on and get a big one, he's in and set, obviously seeing the ball well and timing it beautifully, got to make it count by getting to three figures, could be the difference between 350 and 280 or less for NZ.

The way he is going give it 5-8 overs and he will have a century. We really need Taylor and Styris to come in with this positive environment Ryder/Guptill has set later on and find some form as well.

Seven sixes and only 15 overs gone.

Really do wish I'd seen Razzaq in his prime. Just looking at his stats from his first 100 odd games, they're really quite incredible as an ODI allrounder.

NZ will need 350. This ground is so difficult to defend on. Even a mis-hit can go for 6.
