You compared him to Bendtner, though. Carroll's overhyped and overpriced but at least he's not so hopeless that you sometimes get the feeling he's in the wrong job.
With Bendtner, I think it's a case of his clumsy moments coming in some high-profile games, or he's had days where he's looked incapable of hitting the goal from 2 yards out, which tend to overshadow his contributions. He kept Arsenal in the title race last year for far longer than they had a right to be. Everybody else was playing horrible, or was out injured but he kept scoring crucial late goals.

I don't even think Bendtner's a particularly good player, but based on actual performance, Carroll has done nothing to be considered better than him. Fair enough if you think otherwise on watching him, but it's a huuuuge punt, IMO.

Carroll is clearly better than Bendtner, tbh.

Better at heading ,better at holding up the ball, better at attacking the ball and will almost certainly score more goals than him.
Bendtner is a two bob player but until Andy Carroll has played more than 20 odd Premier League games, Bendtner is the more proven footballer. Bendtner also has done well leading the line for Denmark in a very poor team there. The signing of Carroll is completely bizarre considering the pedigree, the current injury, personal issues and the little fact he is a Donkey. Mike Ashley must have pissed himself.

Arry' looked desperate this morning on SSN. Guy is a transfer addict. Can't see how Fatboy Charlie Adam could make their bench, let alone starting line-up.

Wondering how that's gone down on Merseyside.

Dalglish is obviously remembering how well it worked for him when he last bought a striker with lower-league pedigree for Liverpool. Turned out to be the greatest goalscoring genius of all-time tbh.
You didn't just compare Carroll to Aldridge? :-O

If someone else had done that reckon you'd have had an aneurysm.

Seriously tho, Aldo had scored like 7 million goals, was (IIRC) 28 and at his absolute peak when he was signed. Carroll hasn't even scored a league goal for each million quid he cost.

To put some of this EPL nonsense in perspective, €47m in the summer would have bought you David Villa and Mesut Ozil.

The most expensive man in British football history has played a grand total of 19 Premier League games and 1 international. Ironically, Liverpool signing Carroll for £35m is the sort of ludicrous "look at us, we're a big club, honest, look how much money we're throwing around" signing that Newcastle have been so derided for in the past.
Ha ha

Sky News football pundit gave "PR" and this exact same reason as justification for fee

Dunno about anyone else but I personally think Torres-Drogba is a dream strike partnership. Don't think they'll struggle to fit them both in at all.
Chelsea usually play with a front three so it probably won't be a partnership at all. Reckon they're both more than good enough to make whatever system they end up in work, provided Torres doesn't break down and remembers how to play well.

Haha nah I wasn't comparing them. Just read an article on BBC that mention Dalglish signing the great man so thought I'd throw it out there. It was basically saying Dalglish managed to build an even better team when he lost Rush. It also mentioned some other ****.

PS TT, what do Andy Carroll and John Lennon have in common?

They were burning his shirt outside Melwood last night. Shankly once said 'some say football's a matter of life and death. They're wrong, it's much deeper than that.' Certainly resonates around here, I love it! As long as they don't have him killed or something...

They should have burned it before he left. It got Gerrard to say.

That or the death threats.

Or a change of heart.

Haha, crazy how he had a chat with Rick Parry behind closed doors and announced he was staying, then he got 2 hatricks in his next 2 matches. I started to wonder whether Rick Parry had got the heavies in or something.

Imo it's one of the most stupid things ever said.
