I don't mind the signing, everyone has been raving about how they need a second striker of quality for seasons. Selling Torres and signing Suarez does nothing, so in theory the signing is sound. Having watched a ****ing ****load of Carroll this season (one of my roommates is a Newcastle fan, the other is a City fan fyi) I think he's a very good player and will do well for Liverpool. He holds the ball up very well, forces his involvement in play and finishes pretty clinically for a man of his size. IMO he's comfortably a better player than Bendtner, who for all his talent and skill goes missing for chunks of 50 minutes at a time. When City play Newcastle, I genuinely fear him, even before they went down and he dominated us despite the team being atrocious. I've never feared Bendtner and I seriously doubt i ever will.
However, the fee is absurd and they should've either waited until the summer and paid 20ish or went for a cheaper option if they could have (Fabiano, for instance). The problem there is that there's risk in bringing someone from overseas, especially a Brazillian, and I doubt they wanted to bring two South American strikers in from foreign leagues.
In the end, I think Liverpool win from this deal. They rid themselves of a crocked player who wanted out for a stupidly large amount of cash, they brought in two players who are comfortably better than their current options and make them a better team. They desperately need an overhaul at back and middle though. Word is they enquired about Micah which means they're thinking about it as well. Good signs for Liverpool moving forward IMO.
