Honestly, who gives a **** about Pup being more 'metro' than other Australian captains? And being a different personality to everyone else? The best choice for captain is who's the best captain of the lot.

The guy is an absolute joke tbh. Has resorted to trying to sledge Tim Macdonald on twitter. Garbage reporter. How he has a job is beyond belief.

Went to the game yesterday. Wasn't too bad.

It's more the fact that he thinks he's above the fray.

I don't why, as the guy doesn't even average 50 in Test cricket.

That's the minimum requirement, paticularly in this age of flat pitches, for acting like royalty.

He did not that long ago tbf.

I still have concerns about whether his batting is 100% mentally, as he's painfully tense at the crease, but to blame it on Twitter is... just no.

Regardless, he shouldn't do those self-centred, nonteam things when he's VC and the team's on the skids.

Good thing we can always rely on Ben Dorries for a completely rubbish article

Clarke making a tweet of himself | Fox Sports

It's kinda no secret that it's Australias favourite past-time to criticise every facet of Clarkes life, but fmd this is a dire article. The bloke's in shocking form, of that there can be no doubt, but the way in which lecherous turds like Dorries have been relating every aspect of his life to the reasons why he's not up to the job etc. is just plain disgusting imo.
I got halfway through that article and my browser crashed. I think my computer might be exhibiting signs of intelligence.

What a load of horse ****. Lead the team on the field, and as long as you have the respect of the players (which Clarke seemingly does, though none of us can say) and your form warrants selection (a different issue) noone has a problem, except for gutter journalists and gossips.

The only legitimate criticism of Pup and his Twitter Box is when he tweeted an apology for not walking in Adelaide one hour after he was dismissed. Genuine grounds for the Skipper to throw his Twitter Box off the balcony. Good God man.

Yeah AWTA so much. All this garbage about his off-field stuff is utter crap. Australia didn't lose the Ashes because Clarke drives a Ferrari; who cares?

It's more than just that though. It's being away on tour, managing guys, interacting. To say it's just on-field is not right.

And, for the record, it's more than gutter journalists and gossips - that's trying to marginalise legitimate criticism from respected scribes, people like Tim Lane.

Seriously doubt Simon Katich would do what he did to any Bill Bloggs.

I don't think he's not captaincy material, but he really needs to not think he's about the fray, that he's Hollywood, by refraining from doing those types of things outlined on the previous page of this thread.

Exactly my idea on the issue. The only problem with Clarke is that he may not get a lot of respect from certain players, and that tends to be from the old guard anyway.

And lol at Tim Lane being a respected scribe. Should stick to what he knows, calling play by play, and even then he's rubbish.

Would prefer to see dan christian in the team, but at least Hastings showed guts and composure at the end, big lad too so should be able to bomb them at the end on good pitches. How does he go against spin does anyone know? Bombing spinners is a massive plus for christian which could have been very useful especially in the subcontinent.
Think they're completely different roles, to be fair. If I want someone at 7, I'd probably take Dan Christian. At 8, to be a complete bowler, Hastings every time.

But really, all of that just comes down to Benchy's first point of respect among the playing group. That really is the only point that will affect the performance of the team. If the playing group don't respect him because they feel he puts his personal life above the team that's one thing. Like Benchy, it looks to me like he has the respect of the team although none of us really know that.

Seriously though, how much of the Australian public would know what Clarke had posted on twitter if that ridiculous article hadn't pointed it out? True dross even by sports journalism standards.

Was it T_C that suggested that there was a minor split in the team between the "old guard" and those who more or less Clarke captained in the U19 WC? Ie. most of the team younger than 30

Anyway, it's pretty rank to be making judgments on these things when you're not there, unless you know someone who is (and doesn't have an agenda, mind)

His captaincy ATS has been absolutely fine, quite impressive actually.
