I went to high school with Brad Ipson and we did a few uni subjects together. He had a pretty good debut, even though it wasn't a victorious one.

Like the look of Lyon but I reckon he probably doesn't turn the ball enough for Adelaide Oval. That said, before the T20's, doubt they'd have given him a go in the 4-day team but if they keep getting smashed and Dan Christian transfers some of his LO form into FC cricket, they might drop O'Brien.

That's probably what would have to happen too. The SACA selectors have shown no inclination to pick two spinners this season.

They haven't looked like picking 2 spinners because their other options are terrible and Nathan wasn't wholly contracted. Only become elligible in the past week or so.

Good on him for getting a full contract, hopefully that's the sign they're looking to pick him. We'll see and hopefully he does get a go, though. I like O'Brien but I think SACA, especially considering the other available options, needs to take a punt instead of picking a bloke who only contributes occasionally with the ball.

For decades, one thing which has typified spinners who've succeeded on AO has been big turn (even then Tim May and Peter McIntyre had to bowl big overs for their wickets). Reckon Lyon does enough?

O'Brien can easily make a place in the Redbacks top 6 as he is pretty decent batsman, but really I don't know what this whole fuss about Lyon is all about.
Think Cullen is a much better bowler than him, and tbh even at his worst Dan Cullen's LO performances were hardly that bad for him to be just forgotten like this.
Also think Crayfish has come a long way as an OD spinner, seems to vary his pace and lengths pretty well, if Haurrie doesn't make it for the worldcup then he should definitely come into the mix.

Great effort from O'Keefe and Khawaja to get the total to 168. It's times like these I wish I had Foxtel.

It's good having a youngster with raw pace, last one would have been Tait.
O'Keefe does it again, grabbed 2 wickets in the one over.

Yeah, O'Keefe just brings it in terms of temperament, though tbf it seems to be that most guys who've seen a lot of him who post here say he's a better FC bowler than LO.

Beat piece of commentary this summer?

"Young Gulbis just got jammed up by Coyte".
-W Smith, Foxtel.

Yes, IMO

Edit: see ya Victoria. A very sad evening indeed. Not.

I was at the MCG tonight. Not the result I was hoping for, but it was great to watch a heap of new faces.

The Victorian innings truly ran out of steam after Hodge and Finch departed. The remaining batsman could hardly lay bat on ball after that point. All credit to the NSW bowlers (except Coyte, he was horrible to watch). The young Cummins kid was very impressive. I don't know what speeds he was bowling but he looked a yard quicker than all the other bowlers. I thought he bowled smart too and looked to pitch the ball up. Looks to have a big future ahead of him (unless the likely injuries strike him down).

Also big credit for Khawaja. I have seen him bat in a number of Twenty20 and OD games and he has always looked lost in the shorter format. Tonight he played a smart innings and placed the ball so well. I don't believe he has the power to be a big hitter, but the shorter formats always have room for the types who can find the gaps with ease.

Also that catch by Finch was fantastic. Almost completed half a lap of the ground by the time he stopped celebrating.
