They'll compound things by waiting far too long to take the batting powerplay as well. Should actually be looking to take it about now IMO.
Nah, take the batting powerplay at the earliest possible stage when you'll still want to keep attacking after losing a wicket. That's not now.. probably around the 37th over if these guys keep going strong.

Clobbered that one.

I think with both batsmen now reasonably well set, now's a good time because it disrupts what Dhoni wants to do. A good powerplay doesn't leave ideal conditions for the part timers to fill their remaining 5 overs, assuming Zaheer, Nehra, Patel and Harbhajan all bowl 10.

This would have been better typed 5 minutes ago, but the forum's going slow for me just now.

Batting powerplay taken. Don't really like it tbh.
Yeah, I like the willingness to mix it up, which we don't see much of at all, but you really shouldn't be taking it till around the 35th over IMO. A wicket now, as PP's often bring, changes everything.

AWTA. To add to that, they'd finally started getting on top of Harbhajan and the part-timers a bit in the couple of overs just prior to this. Making Dhoni change the bowling and then bring back the spinners later in different circumstances and possibly against different batsmen isn't something I would've done. Dhoni couldn't really change the bowling unless SA took the PowerPlay because he needs his three seamers for it and the death, so it was a good opportunity to really put pressure on them.

Taking the PP hasn't worked on too badly so far but if they lose a couple of wickets then Yuvraj will probably tie down Miller/Botha when he comes back on after the PP, which is the last thing SA would want given India's balance.

It's a good decision. If Yuvraj has to bowl at the death SA are going to dominate.

Edit: Scrap that. Wasn't watching the last 30 minutes. Had no idea it's only the 30th over.

Could've still made him bowl at the death by taking it around the 35th over though, and continued on the roll of attacking him now as well instead of letting Dhoni change the bowling right when he was under the pump a bit.

I agree with not taking it in the last ten today, but I still think they did it a bit early.

EDIT: Haha, just saw your edit. Ignore. :p

I really think that if they get along at 7 an over during this period without a wicket, then they're in a super strong position and it was well worth it.

Hindsight really ends up being the only way of judging powerplays, because you can take it at the best time possible, and it might not work, or seemingly at a stupid time, and it does come off.

India went from 3.75 up to 4.80 and back down to 4.00 in that over without a wicket falling. Odd fluctuation just for a dot ball and a single.

There we go - PP goes for 9 an over, innings RR is over 6, 7 wickets in hand, 18 overs left with Zaheer having bowled 8 overs and Harbhajan 7. Should be nicely set up for a massive score now.

Have officially arbitraged; I win an insignificant amount ($3.40 I think, lol) if India win or $48 if South Africa do. Happy with that; can't lose.

Is Ashwin injured or has Harbhajan just waltzed back into the team on reputation?
second one...

They should both be in the playing XI during the course of the World Cup. Indian bowling attack for the WC should be Zaheer, Praveen, Harbhajan, Ashwin, Yusuf, Yuvraj. If conditions are pace-friendly (Mohali etc.), then we can think of Munaf/Nehra in place of Ashwin/Harbhajan. That's that.

Miller looks dire against spin. Probably would've sent Botha in ahead of him purely so Miller could just come in and look to launch in a few overs; that he has such a dire First Class record as opposed to his List A one gives me no faith in his ability to bat properly for any length of time.
