Nice straightening ball from Watto there but I'm baffled as to how Tharanga missed it....

Interesting to hear the commentators talking about how you only need a little bit of movement to cause a batsman trouble...something refuted wholeheartedly on here a while back by some if I remember correctly

If the swing remains consistent at the Gabba, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to use Watson as a main bowler (the 4th quick). Because it looks like he might be able do some serious damage. And seeing as though Anderson and Broad might actually find these conditions favourable, Smith instead of Hauritz to bolster our batting. So the team would effectively function as a 4 quick attack (usuing Watson) with no main spinner, but with Smith coming in at 8. What do you think?

I don't think batting Smith @ 8, does any favours to either the team or him, he is guy who should only be batting in the top 6.
Also believe if we are to win the Ashes, Hauritz has to play a role, so our combination has to be 3 quicks +1 spinner + Watto.

Meanwhile... Starc bowling absolutely beautifully here, very impressed with the way, he has used different lengths to good effect.

He could bat at 7, and Haddin at 8, it doesn't really make much of a difference. But I was just talking about for the Gabba, not the entire Ashes.

The problem is, if Anderson gets some good swing and it happens to be one of his amazing days, then our fragile batting order could collapse (like it has so many times in the past). So at least with Smith, we would have good batting all the way down to 8, without sacrificing any of the bowling attack.

This is woeful from SL. Other than dor Dilshan, top order went to **** shots. They are not there anymore. The very reason they should have played the whole bench. The bench guys at least will try hard. Silva is trying hard, Mendis tried hard but failed. Sanga, Mathews and Mahela just threw it away.

Dilshan's dismissal was soft as well.
