*Official* Pakistan v South Africa in Dubai

I think the word "choke" is overused. Technically, it means getting nervous and throwing away a winning position against an opponent who has a mental edge over you and has beaten you several times in the past (see Pak. vs. India, '90s). Right now, Pakistan don't have a mental edge even against a potato. So, I'd call it complacency on SA's part rather than choking. And Razzaq's brilliance, obviously.
Agree with that...entirely....even the potato part.

Pakistan destroyed Razzak's career by playing him as a tail ender. He's a proper batsman who can bowl a bit, not the other way.

Razzaq's really not a proper batsman though. He can't rotate the strike at all. What he has is a decent defensive technique and a brutal power-based attacking game - there are no inbetweens with him though so he's perfectly suited to being a finisher in ODIs.

Not sure why the odds fell 30 cents with that wicket. Not like it was Razzaq, and Fawad Alam was just as likely to be responsible for a string of dot balls as he was getting a boundary.
I was right about this
God this team is so **** now. Not sure why I bother watching them.
And wrong about this
I had written a similar comment before the start of the match Jono and I tell you......THIS is why I bother watching this **** team :)...........
Haha no doubt. As you can tell by my angry post, I had money on Pakistan and cracked it when the 7th wicket fell and went to bed (it was past 5am tbf).

I am in shock tbh. Regretting going to sleep so bad. So happy though, Razzaq wag.

Plus pre-2004 he was a good bowler.

Had an annoying knack of getting Tendulkar LBW's with off-cutters.

I must say this has to go down as one of the best ODI innings ever
I am actually trying to think when has another innings like this has been played in a successful chase. Douglas Marillier played one but it wasn't a hundred. Kaif/Yuvraj in Natwest final was awesome but those were 2 men doing it together. Klusener did it a few times but none of them hundreds again.

For the annual best ODI innings of the year selection that cricinfo does at the end of every year, this might just edge out Tendulkar's 200 that I had pinned my hopes on.

That applies to almost all Pakistani batsmen except a few. He is no number #7 for sure, that's Afridi.

All Pakistani batsmen to think of themselves as Razzaq and be bundled out for <150 next game

So am I. And all I could think about was your "**** team" comment and laughing out loud.

Tendulkar was all class in that 200. Incidentally I got a chance to meet Saeed Anwar a week after that 200 and Saeed said "if there was a batsman who deserved that 200 it was Sachin"

But I would say that this should edge out Sachin's Herculean effort.

In the next match they will be back to their original self. As pathetic as ever.

Well it was like this.......

Me and my friends had invited Saeed for some discussion and he had obliged us at the university............

So before he was about to leave one of my friends said "Saeed bhai aap ka dil pay tu churian chal rahee hongee kyun kay Tendulkar nay pichlay haftay aap ka 194 ka record tor dia hai"

(Brother Saeed there must be a lot of pain in your heart because of the fact that your record for 194 was broken by Tendulkar last week)

laughter followed from the boys

Saeed said "Nahin yar record tu tootnay kay liye he hota. Sachin bohat acha batsman hai. Agar kisi ka record tornay ka banta tha tu us he ka tha)

(No boys my heart doesn't ache for the record. After all records are to be broken. I tell you Sachin is a very good batsman. If there is anyone who should have broken the record it should have been Sachin)

Haha, ridiculous innings. Scored 63 of the last 65 runs ffs. Reminded me of this innings, but from an even worse situation and a successful chase this time obviously. Pretty much destroyed NZ every time he played them at the time.
I remember that series. Was basically "Pakistan falls in a heap, Razzaq comes in and goes nuts."

Lol at our h4xed tail. 9-10-11 of Oram, Vettori, Mills. Also lol at Oram going 2/28 off his ten.

Geez, that was back in the days when batsmen could actually get on top of Vettori and Mills wasn't much at all. And Hamish Marshall was actually good. Fun times. Was an awesome series.

Happens in the Chappell-Hadlee seemingly all the time (Hayden's 181* was so gun). Craig McMillan's hundred was the fastest ever (broke Oram's record) by a kiwi, and that was a successful chase. Not sure on the number of balls though.

Any of Afridi's tons in chases? Sehwag, Jayasuria and Gilly probably have some tons right up there.

Afridi hit a terrific ton in the Asia Cup against SL earlier this year, all the other batsmen seemed to struggle in that game. But Pakistan lost the match. I think there was also some rumour about that match being under investigation for fixing.

A couple of Sehwag's knocks in the Micromax Cup were very good. Seemed to be playing a different game to everyone else.

I thought of that match as well!

I remember Pakistan were looking like they'd get there and then Shoaib was run out because he didn't ground his bat  Resulted in the rest collapsing as well.

No wonder Razzaq figured he'd just do it in boundaries this time
