Mybe we should do a Katich and keep Gambhir just for tests. Kohli is unbelievably good at no.3 atm.

Yeah, but at least don't play him anywhere below 4 where he has to hit out from the beginning. He needs to build an innings before hitting out since he is not a natural big hitter like a Yuvraj or a Dhoni or a Raina.

I thought of that innings, but it was against a fairly ordinary attack TBF. Gambhir not opening might mess up the balance of the side a bit.. as Shri pointed out, he doesn't look like a natural hitter.

I think Vijay, Kohli and Gambhir should probably be competing for two batting slots in the middle order.

That's not too different from SL's attack that we'll face in the World Cup, and they're one of the biggest contenders. He made Malinga look ordinary, and he's one of the best in the world.

Gambhir has been playing 3 for ages. He hasn't been a regular opener unless Sehwag or Tendulkar are out. Don't see how he's been able to do it all this time and suddenly can't in the World Cup on pitches that suit his batting.

Biggest problem is finding some death over bowlers there. The Indians amongst the forum here seem to be against the idea of Praveen doing the job, so does that mean that you sacrifice a spinner at that stage?

Very difficult, especially with only three men being allowed out for five overs out of the last ten.

Hmm, be interesting. Ojha's done very well in T20, but when I've seen him he's has had the luxury of bowling with 5 guys out. Does tend to rely on bowling slow and making the batsman generate the pace. Think it could be a different game with set batsmen.

Praveen and Zak should open the bowling. Zak bowls 4 and praveen 6. Then Nehra bowls as first change - 5 or 6 overs. The powerplay overs will be over and the spinners should bowl the middle overs with the part timers and the occasional short spell from praveen and nehra, bowl praveen out if possible. Get to the 40 over mark with Ojha, Zak and nehra having a few overs and use zak and ojha in the death with nehra bowling the early 40th overs.

Playing 5 bowlers is not required IMO. Go with the batting depth on the sub-continent, and rely on the wickets being reasonably slow or spin friendly. Then bowl Yuvraj, Raina and Sehwag.

Kohli seems to be a decent ODI bat-he's already got 2 tons in huge successful run-chases.With experience he'll become more mature.Doesn't seem unduly troubled by the short ball either-will be a decent test player imo.

Was exactly my thought, especially since the guy has been playing international cricket longer than Kohli and Pujara.

He wanted to go with the 'three' theme obviously.
