I don't consider Nannes to be anything more than a decent OD bowler. Well behind many others for ODI selection, and rightfully so. Australia doesn't need another limited overs bowler who can only manage to play in every one in three ODI series.

He bowled well yesterday, but nothing to suggest he demands selection. The two wickets I seen was Simpson trying to slog over mid-off and the wicket of Reardon who was trying to paddle sweep.

Funnily enough Lee is flying along so far. He's still in the best OD team imo but it's only a matter of time before he breaks down so no matter.

I'm not watching the match today, good to hear Lee has done well. I would love to see him at the World Cup if he remains injury free.

Was Phil Hughes overlooked or was he never going to play in this match?

Agree that the selectors should be fired, but I don't think Nannes not being in India is that big a travesty. Brett Lee plays today, if he does well will you be saying the same thing about him.
I'm not sure how Lee isrelevant here. With key players like Johnson/Harris/Tait injured & rested i dont how Nannes is not the best back-up to those guys instead of McKay & all those young players. Based on his excellent T20 form for AUS.

Ha. Nannes would clearly walk into any other ODI XI in the world & AUS selectors & some fans make all these styles over him. Pigeon holed him unfortunately as a T20 specialist.

As mentioned above, with certain key bigger players rested/injured for this ODI sweries. I dont know what makes the likes of McKay & those inexperienced young bowlers better than him ATM.

Nannes doesn't want to stick to playing just Twenty20 and is pushing for a place in Australia's World Cup squad next year. He has only played a single ODI, against Scotland last year, but feels he has plenty to offer the 50-over game if the selectors want to give him a chance.

"Absolutely, I'd love to," he said. "I'm still playing one-dayers at home. I certainly want to throw my hat in the ring for that, but unfortunately I don't pick the team and they haven't selected me yet so we'll have to see how it goes. I think I've bowled well in India as a whole in the IPL and fast bowlers still have a case to play out there and do well."

Lee is relevant because he's a fast bowler just like Nannes. He's played for Australia just like Nannes, He's the wrong side of 30 just like Nannes, He's retired from FC Cricket just like Nannes, He's just come back this weekend from injury just like Nannes...

Nannes is obviously a better cricketer over Pattinson and Starc it's so obvious, but he has a few questions marks over his ability to bowl 10 overs and back it up 3 days later.

I get angry when the Test team doesn't pick the best XI, but I can understand somewhat when the ODI squad looks a bit to the future.

Let's hope Nannes plays at home against England hey Aussie.

SACA picked Kane Richardson for this game. Hooray for picking someone from SA! They've clearly picked him as a bowler because he's batting around number 10. Strange, he's a bowling all-rounder but okay.

How many overs has he bowled in the first 20 overs of the match? 0.

So either they're relying on him to bowl from one end for the entire second half of Tassie's innings putting the pressure on him to not bowl well but brilliantly or he's pretty much going to bowl a few overs, hopefully not get smashed and won't get enough of a bat to make an impact on the game. Either way, unless he does do the former, why pick him when you have three other specialist bowlers and two other bowling all-rounders? D'ya reckon SA might be a batsman light this game?

Would have been better off playing for Woodville.

Also Kane Richardson update: 0 overs out of 45; 5 wickets down and still not in; his name has not been mentioned once by the CA commentator since the game actually started.

SA 6/106 chasing 274, Req RR around 8. The game's in the bag, Richardson obviously there in case they really need him you douche.

When you're picking twelve players a side and you only have to use four bowlers, you're definitely going to get cases of players being picked and then only used if things go wrong, particularly in teams who have a few allrounders.

Christian's bowling went wrong if you ask me.

EDIT: Didn't see your 2nd post on the matter.

Yeah exactly. Why not Bailey? Offers a more experienced bowling option in case they needed it, some variety and more hitting power.

Lee is relevant in that sense. But he is not relevant in sense of a player who before the selection of the ODI squad to IND. In Nannes who was bowling superbly in T20 cricket all year round & somehow managed to be overlooked for youngsters, with injuries/resting of key players. If their was any series to test any worries you or the selectors may have to back-up after 10 overs in ODIs, it was this one surely.

Lee has now come back from cricket, so obviously he would never have been considered for the squad to IND.

In this world cup season. Only players who have a genuine chance of going to the world cup should be in & around the ODI squad. No time for experimenting with youngsters.

I'd love to see him get a chance in the home ODIs this summer. But with these selectors around, i wont be holding my breath.

Nannes was playing grade cricket the week before even though Victoria were playing, having lost five kilograms after being sick in South Africa in the Champions League.
