*Official* Australia in India 2010

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Pujara's approach was assured and he scored briskly at more than a run-a-ball, forcing Australia to re-evaluate their plan of attack. "If you see the wicket, it's a lot easier to bat with the new ball than when the ball starts reversing a bit," Pujara said. "Australia were trying to get some wickets early on. They were trying to attack but also trying to defend. They didn't know what they were trying to do."

Who do you reckon has the best pace bowling unit out of Aus and SA?

-Bollinger, Johnson, Hilfenhaus

-Steyn, Morkel, Ntini
SA by a street even with just the 2 of them.

The more relevant question is Bollinger,Hilfenhaus and Johnson against Anderson,Broad and Finn.

Pujara is the next big thing in tests for India imo. Has good footwork, plays bouncers well and scores off them while keeping the ball on the ground, plays swing well and was exceptional against spin bowling. Could play Dravid at 6, Laxman at 5 and Pujara at 3 in the SA series.

So impressed with Pujara. The tightness of his technique and his posture remind me somewhat of Dravid. He has the willingness to play his shots, the cut, the pull, front-foot drive, glance off the pads and comes down the wicket to the spinners. It took a ball that kept low and a jaffa in the second innings to get him out.

Just can't stop thinking about what an ass whopping this Indian team would give to Pakistan if they were to play a test series now.... LOL!

Today when I turned on the TV in the morning, I didn't have my glasses on. In the scoreboard, I saw India was 1 wicket down, and saw a guy play a superb cover drive off Johnson full of confidence. I was elated that Dravid has got his confidence back :)

Guess what, I became happier after I put on my glasses :)

I need to find a way to get $400 out of my betfair account and into my bet365 account immediately so I can lay off and make sure my only two options are winning $520 and breaking even. Damn how it takes two days. :(
You cost me money ****.

Australia quite easily. Especially when you consider AUS pace depth ATM.

As already mentioned Ntini got dropped because he was finised as test bowler. SA 3rd choice paceman is Parnell ATM, but De Wet when fit.

So overall if you add up first XI options plus pace depth of both sides:

AUS: Bolinger, Hilfenhaus, Johnson, Harris, Siddle, George. All 5 have played tests & except for George ATM, all are quality. Shout outs to other talented youngsters who have been bowling well in sheild cricket, but i have not seen yet expec for J Pattinson such as Starc, Copeland

SA: Steyn, Morkel, De Wet, Parnell, C Alexander, McLaren, Tsotsobe, E O'reilly (Francois Plaatjies & Quinton Friend are also a few names that have been spoken about).

Off this crop of who have played international cricket outside Steyn/Morkel, only De Wet is quality ATM. McLaren is decent but is basically suited to bowling in SA conditions, while i have been impressed with Alexander. But the rest are either unproven unknowns or crap (Tsotsobe).

Yes, this.

Steyn is in a league of his own.

I think Morkel will end up being about the same as Johnson in the long run.

SA by a very large margin.

I think Aus is about level with England ATM. But England have Swann, and Australia have Hauritz.

See nothing wrong with it? Not saying Australia would have necessarily won with a better team selection (we will never know), but it would have increased out chances.
Seeing as you're saying that with a better team selection you'd be number 1 in Tests then by definition you are say you'd have won.

heh nice image. Sour grapes though? naaa, if anything that statement is giving praise to Indians - i.e. with their quality batting line up, together with a reasonably good 5th day wicket, the result was inevitable.

I actually meant a run chase was never going to be hard....for the Indians.

BTW, I called the Pujara promotion in the ad break just after Sehwag was dismissed. I turned to my Dad and said, "I'd love to see Pujara promoted here, Dravid is not in the best of form and may struggle against Johnson early on". Was a  moment for me, given how it worked out.

I think Steyn is a tad overated. 35% of his wickets (which is the largest share) are tail enders. Compared to 28% for Johnson, 17% for Hilfenhaus, and 26% for Bollinger.

Wow that is impressive from Zaheer Khan...only 18% of his wickets tail enders. 47% are the top 1-3.
Meaningless stat really. Steyn has troubled the best of opposition world wide consistently in every series he has played, since he became test quality vs New Zealand 2006. Their is certainly nothing overated about him, not even by a tad.

Well it stank of "making runs on this pitch in the 4th innings isn't at all impressive because it's a featherbed".
