Has i said, using the duke ball for the 1st time & not being accustomed to it along with off-field issues affected his peformances in Ashes 09. He wasn't even doing is "very good strenghts" of hitting-the-deck & angled deliviers across the left-hander with consistently for the majority of that series.

Vs PAK 09. As he has shown in his career to date, after coming off a break he takes while to get back into match bowling rhythm & he bowled poorly in those two tests vs PAK here.

So basically once he is in good bowling rhythm & gets a greentop/overcast condtions in either test or ODIs, as this game: 6th ODI: India v Australia at Guwahati, Nov 8, 2009 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

I 100% expect to get his inswinger to the right-hander going.
While they are reasons to perform under-par on the whole, I would still expect him, should his capabilities allow, to shape a few deliveries back into the right-hander in form, off-field problems or not, in such conducive conditions.

Cannot see it becoming a weapon in his arsenal.

Test in India & SA use the same kookubura ball. ENG use the duke ball.

Johnson's failures in ENG 09, was a mixture of using the duke ball for the 1st time & off-field family issues.

This year vs PAK. Was just down to having having a bad two test.

Everytime since the SA 08/09 series when Johnson has been bowling well & gotten seaming conditions in either test or ODIs, he has gotten the ball to swing. I'm sure you haven't forgotten this match:

Tests in India use the SG Balls which are more similar to the Duke ball than the Kookabarra ball.
The SG ball has the most pronounced Seam of the lot which helps in Seaming the ball ,reversing and specially the spinners.

I've always thought in India and throughout the sub continent that both the Kookabura (spell check) and SG balls in tets. Just like how in England the Duke and readers would be used in tests.

I am also aware of the similarities with the SG and Duke and its the more pronounced seam of the Duke and SG ball, which can certainly be a bit unsual for a bowler intially if you have never used it before, from the club/school cricket experience I have.
Which is what happened to Johnson in ENG in 09 especially.

Seen him last season in two shield matches, to be honest he didnt impress a lot. Bowls sharpish pace but not exactly quick. Has height so gets bounce, but I have to say Trent Johnston from NSW looks a more killer prospect, even not taking into account his brilliant stats. But hey, hope George puts on a good display and does his country proud.

Hate to say it, but he reminds me of Chris Martin....:-O That reminds me, Coldplay sucks.

If North tons up today, rather than vindication for the selectors, it will merely just confirm what everyone knows and will be in-keeping with the pattern of his career....failure after failure, followed by a big one-off score...and then the cycle starts again.

So yeah, he really should even be marked down even if he gets a ton today. lol

hmm i'd be tempted to try mukund over vijay to open with sehwag. i'm not completely sold on vijay yet and mukund should've been picked ideally (initially). he's not that great anyways lol. plus left/right combination might be better.

as for bowling i really would've preferred a 3 seam attack with bhaji sitting out. but with ishant being injured that can't really work. unadkat is a joke and i have no clue what the selectors were thinking. we could have gone with praveen, shree, zaheer, and ojha. have raina and sehwag bowl a few.

Is North confirmed to play? Hilditch didn't explicitly say he was playing IIRC, just that he's a 'very classy player' and that he'd have been disappointed with his performances. Seems that normally if they are going to be playing, the selectors or Ponting will come out and definitively say that they're in for the next Test.

Or maybe I'm just being hopeful.

I hope he does well, when he's in form he's pretty good to watch, but as others have said, the cycle will just continue.
