Yeah but he doesn't do that very often in the second innings.

There are lots of situations where Sehwag does increase the chance of victory more than a player of similar quality but dis-similar style would, but chasing a smallish total in the second innings isn't one of them. A really consistent opener who'll guaratee you 50 (or better yet, a two such players) is preferable in this situation really as a ton opening partnership would put the game beyond doubt. Sehwag is a) dire in the second innings of games and b) not terribly consistent anyway. If Australia can knock him over early which, for all Sehwag's awesomeness, is more likely than it would be with a different type of player of similar quality, it'll really open the game.

He's a gun bat so he'll obviously be a massive factor but I see Tendulkar and Dravid as bigger players in this situation. Not every situation makes Sehwag more valuable than another player with a similar average. This is one circumstance where a more consistent player averaging 55 odd would be a bigger asset.
Spot on.

I really hope Sehwag looks at this frailty in his temperament and works on it, because I believe there is no reason he cannot succeed even in 2nd innings. The 83 against England and 150 odd at Adelaide in 2008 are evidence.

Aussies 75-25 from this position. That shot Sehwag played is probably the only thing I hate about him. Either play the full shot and get out or leave the ball at all times.. this in-between urge to play at it yet not go for the shot is what I hate:dry:

Nah, I agree with Contra. He has a solid enough defense, just needs to decide which balls he can go after and which ones to leave alone. And he has to adjust those parameters to be a tad more conservative than they usually are when he bats in the first innings.

All easier said than done, of course, but I believe it can be done.

EDIT : I'm not expecting him to average 70 obviously, but 35-40 shouldn't be too much to ask for a batsman of his class.

Runs will be easy to get once the ball gets softer and the bounce isn't as alarming. Should play another 20 overs without losing important wickets imo.

I rather he just go all out in the 2nd innings. If it pulls of, we win. If it doesn't, well nothing would have really changed.

Ishant just said he was low on confidence and has a knee inflammation which he is playing with under jabs. He said the no-balls are because he's struggling with rhythm, he's working on it with Zak and hopes it doesn't recur next game. Honest.

Sehwag is a complete package...the package that includes a 293 from 250 balls also includes a ridiculous shot chasing 215 and getting out and leaving your team in doldrums.

Take it or leave it

Runs will be just as hard since the new ball rockets off the bat.

Erm, next game? I rather Sree be given a go, given that his injury might recur during the next game.
