*Official* Australia in India 2010

Suppose we go well, and end the session ~380 odd with at least one capable batsman in. When do folks reckon Ponting should call them in? Bear in mind he almost always calls them in the middle of this session nowadays.

Personally I'd just say go until ao.

Don't think Ponting will be so attacking with this declaration as he has been back home. He knows 3/4 of the Indian bowlers are carrying niggles and he'd probably prefer to keep them out there for as long as possible.

Well Auzz are playing for a draw here IMO.....
Of course they are. I mean, they need to win the series to claim the trophy, they won the toss and batted first on an up-and-down wicket, their opposition only picked four bowlers and one of them is injured and might not bowl again in the match. All signs point towards Australia playing for a draw.

India on the other hand are quite clearly going all out for the win, having picked only four bowlers (one of whom specialises completely in strangling the runs and one of whom who is now injured), set ring fields and operated with the old ball into the the 120th over. All in a two-Test series in which they currently hold the trophy. Attacking cricket the obvious method given all that.

Whatever it takes!!!
Think Mitch will give it a go and who knows.. 400 maybe enough on this track.. So Australia playing it intelligently and in the drivers' seat AFAIC..

No point declaring before 450-500 IMO. Obviously a time will come when Australia will need to push on the scoring rate, but the pitch is only going to get worse so they should make the best use of the comparatively good conditions as they can. 380 runs isn't going to win the game - they're going to have to bat again anyway with that score in worse conditions - so as long as they up the rate after getting to 350 there's no reason not to bat on.

Yeah, sounds fair to me.

Geez Johnson with his backlift must give close-in fielders nightmares.

Good God, you don't declare in games like this. Bat, bat, bat, bat, bat.

Just like SS's usual Sat night.

91% humidity. Holy heckballs.

Woah, 3rd and 4th 50's came up in a tick under 200 deliveries apiece. Insane.

Ughh.

When you bowl the pacer, you might as well take the new ball. Only justification for not taking it has to be because you're bowling your spinners. No point tiring your pacer with the old ball.

Unless it's going seriously Irish, which it isn't. Australia scoring pretty freely now; definitely time to take the new rock. Even if Dravid has to take the gloves and Dhoni has a trundle - now wouldn't that be interesting?

REFER IT!!

Oh wait.....

EDIT: Glove, for mine.
Good decision, if you can't tell whether its hit the glove from a front on slo-mo then the umpire cant be faulted imo.
AWTA but I reckon it might have been given if able to referred. And I'm hoping it now costs the Indians 100+ runs just to ram home the point.
Think I agree with both of you here. Looked a very faint glove (and snicko seemed to lend its cautious support) but it was one of those calls that (based on how it worked up here v Pakistan) where I reckon the original call would've stood, whichever way it'd gone.

Hotspot would've been interesting to see, but my guess is it was such a light touch it maybe wouldn't have registered enough,

Wonder what it is with Tasmanians?
Coupla centuries of inbreeding?

What sort of injury did Sharma get? I've been missing a bunch of sessions of this test so I can go make cheddar.
Officially his knee, but really his arse IMHO. Looked very short of a gallop even before the delivery where he was supposed to have injured it.

Go Mitch. Looks like at least one Aussie tired of playing possum.

Dear Steve,

Watching the current test in Mohali, what is the longest time spent using the same old ball in a test innings in the past 30 years?

Mordy Lefuchewicz
