*Official* India in Sri Lanka 2010 - Tests

Mr. Glass
I'm not sure about Ishant's average when he was selected, but he had only proved himself to perform in the odd game here and there and this is exactly what he has done at Test level. Moreover, his lack of FC experience showed him to succumb to the rigours of an international schedule and go into quite a considerable decline.
Thats because he is a pace bowler, the spinners usually cope better.

I didn't hate them, I usually admired Australia (though wanted them to lose on several occasions) and several of their players.

Sehwag is such a great player he almost makes watching India bearable. Almost.
BTW, in case you hadn't noticed, this Test match is fascinatingly poised after two days and anything could happen and a result looks definite.

You say this based on stats? Thats why people like you and me are not selectors(Ishant averaged around 40 when he was picked for the test team). He is rated highly by commentators who see him bowl and others, he could have that X factor that only people who have played at the international level can recognize.
Ashwin as a bowler will only make it in T20's at the moment or maybe ODI's .He doesn't have the penetration required in test cricket. Don't think even Tamilnadu use him as a attacking option in FC cricket .He is best as a defensive option.
Tamilnadu Had some Srinivas chap who was their primary spinner in FC cricket i think ,who did way better than Ashwin.
I am not too confident about his batting too at Test level,a bit like Piyush Chawla's.

I think Piyush Chawla,Murali Karthik are still ahead of him in the pecking order for tests.

And if we are looking for someone with X-factor then maybe Mohnish Parmar could fit the bill. He has a very good FC record and last year got his action remodelled and cleared by the BCCI and now is adapting with it and doing well with the GUjarat 11 in Kenya.
Though i don't think he is ready yet ,he is one to watch out for.

Parmar needs to have a good season or two post remodelling his action to be anywhere near considered for national selection. He can be the successor to Harby if nurtured well.

Why do you guys respond to Ikki's post? just let him post that FFS, who cares. People post **** about England and Australia all the time. India is just the team to be hated now.

I'm not sure it would be appreciated if I went into an Ashes thread and posted that the cricket is of bog-standard and makes me want to stab my eyes out, perhaps the mods would have a word. It's understandable if it was in the 2nd match which was truly a bore draw, but this one's going to have an interesting conclusion regardless of result.

Anyway, that's my two cents and I don't really care all that much.

Ishant was a standout performer due to his young age, and pace and bounce he got. That was the x factor. Ashwin is decent but hasn't shown why he can be considered above other competing spinners. Imho, Chawla is a better option than Ashwin, considering exp as well and has shown his skills with the bat as well.

Chawla is out of form and looked clueless in the international games when he played the last time. Ashwin's batting is on a different level compared to Chawla, he has 2 FC hundreds and average close to 40. He could play a role like Shakib's in the test side.

People always come into Australian match threads and troll the hell out of us.

Randiv to Sehwag, no run, Loud Shout for lbw Close. Very close. Imo, Very lucky to survive that. It was delivered from round the stumps and it turned in. Sehwag again leaned forward to defend but the bat was behind the pad. He was struck in front of middle and it would have hit middle and leg I think. Let me see what the hawk eye says
CWism catches up to cricinfo.

Jeez, it really makes you wonder just how many runs Sehwag would score if he didn't do things like that. I mean the guy scores double and triple centuries for fun and yet you wouldn't list concentration amongst his best attributes. It's crazy.
