It's the first day of the summer holidays.

This is such an appallingly bad game of cricket right now that I'm almost tempted to go back into work and finish off filing the reams of crap I've left in my classroom.

You're quoting Anderson figures which includes a period when he was actually a good ODI bowler, as well as years ago the run-rates were front-line seamers were lower. His recent stats tell a completely different story.
Anderson since 1/1/08: 47 games, 56 wickets, ave 35.39, econ 5.37
Anderson since 1/1/09: 27 games, 46 wickets, ave 26.84, econ 5.22

Bresnan since 1/1/09: 23 games, 25 wickets, ave 38.16, econ 5.02

Bresnan has also largely feasted on Bangladesh and associates, he's ****ing awful against Test-quality sides.

Anything hitting the pads is out. No more wides. Just finish it off.

Which sport is it that hands out fines for refusing to try?

At least Shafiul looks as bored as the rest of us were...

Boring game made a little more entertaining by Shahzad before he got injured.Looks a useful prospect the way he can mix it up and is surely moving ahead of Bresnan in the pecking order for a winter slot.

Will be interesting to see if Bopara gets picked over Wright at full strength now.. the only reason Wright was getting a game, as far as I could tell, was the fact that he was a potentially decent finisher. I'm not a huge fan of Ravi but I really don't think there's anything Wright can do that he can't; he's even a better bowler IMO.

Strauss has got so bored that he's unleashed Trott at the Bangladeshi batters.

Fully expecting Kieswetter to turn his arm before the end of this game.
Did K'wetter get a bowl in what may be his last ODI for a while?

Was improving
Anderson 2009 - 34 wickets at 23.61 econ 4.97 s/r 28.5

He does have the hardest part bowling 3 out of the 5 overs in the batting powerplay. I don't know why they didn't give Broad 3 and Anderson 2.

Anderson's problem is that he needs his full 6 over spell to take wickets but if he is expensive Strauss takes him off after 3 or 4. In 2009 the last 9 times that he has bowled 6 overs spells he has taken wickets 8 times. This year out of 8 matches 7 of them were 2/3/4 overs. So unless he finds a way to be more economical he isn't going to have much success.

Tamim isn't that amazing a one day batsman IMO, decent but not as world class as he is in Tests. Mortaza looks to be back, though perhaps its just the English conditions that he enjoys. Shafiul :(

Wow, just caught up with the scorecard, massively comprehensive performance from England on papers anyways. Was it a road after the first new ball or did Strauss & Trott just play exceedingly well?

Daft as it sounds i think he tries to go too hard in one day games with the restricted fields.Almost as though he expects himself to get a ton before the powerplay is over,if he played as he does in tests that would be enough but in the one day series he played massive shots at nearly every ball.

It's not unheard of for dashers in test cricket to struggle in ODIs. Michael Slater springs immediately to mind. And I don't know whether Phil Hughes has played many games for the Aus 50 over side.

Yeah, Phillip Hughes hasn't played any ODI games for Australia and hasn't really been in the picture either, his OD record for NSW isn't that impressive either.

Sehwag was another one that overdid it, for a while at least. He used to average ~30 in ODIs. Still kinda overdoes it in T20 as well I think.

Yeah, defo, it is only recently that he has started hitting some top consistency in ODI cricket, but even that is mainly on extremely flat pitches.
