It is only a 13 man squad though, can you genuinly justify dropping two batsmen from that squad? Whats Luke Wright done to deserve to be dropped? You cannot simply jettison him because Trott has excellent domestic form, when he hasn't done anything wrong himself.

Davis I feel is an excellent player but Kieswetter has to be ahead of him. I really don't see how anyone can justify dropping him after the T20 W.C. The suggestion is laughable.

I can't see how any squad could be changed there other than Bell for one of Davies/Trott.

Kieswetter shouldn't have been in the side in the first place, Davies should've been there for the last year.
Regardless, drop Strauss and bring in Davies, drop Bell and bring in Trott.
Drop Yardy, is he really an ODI player? Yeah he did well in the Caribbean where the pitches assissted his bowling but I'm not convinced he can do a job in the longer form of the game.
You're going to have Swann, Broad and then 2 from SiBo, Jimmeh and Bresnan. Leaving you with 10 overs from a combination of Wright, Collingwood and Yardy.
You don't need Yardy there especially when Trott averages about 28 with the ball in List A cricket.

We won't drop Strauss so Bell and Yardy out for the pair which gives you something like :

Bell is a square peg in a round hole at number 6 in an ODI team IMO, he wouldn't hit enough boundaries to push the run rate on (which is the number 6's job in an ODI team).

Yardy's bowling will be useful in the ODIs and his batting is just added value.

Luke Wright looked in decent nick when i saw him the other day, he has done nothing to warrent him being dropped.

No, your number 6 has to be able to hit gaps, run hard to turn 1s into 2s, and be able to bomb the ball over the ropes on the odd occasion that it's needed. See Michael Hussey.

Why not pick both?

They're both in the top 6 OD bats in the country, there's no reason why you can't play both just because both happen to keep wicket.

Depends if you're happy for your "aggressive" opener to play out a heck of a lot of dot balls rather than rotate the strike or not.

Davis had by far the highest SR in domestic OD cricket last year, despite hitting a grand total of 3 6s. That tells you something about his ability at rotating the strike.

People seem to forget that you don't need to consistently clear the ropes to score quickly. Mike Hussey in ODIs is a faster scorer than the likes of Chris Gayle and Matthew Hayden.

Bell did look particularly (and surprisingly) good on the TV last night - hitting the ball over the top with alacrity.

Whilst Bell's inclusion is somewhat understandable, his problems have always been his inability to score 100s in both forms of the game. Looking at his List A record, that doesnt appear to have been resolved.

If Yardy is good enough to wear an England ODI shirt then Im Santa Claus.

Uhh... seriously how can the selectors justify leaving out both Trott and Davies, two of the best and most consitent domestic Limited Overs players for the past few seasons.
Davies gets one T20I, top scores and is binned.
Trott plays one dodgy innings when he was in shocking form and gets binned.

Yeah Im not sure I can quite fathom how someone averaging nearly 50 in ODI cricket for England can be left out.
Similarly, how could they leave out their captain from their last ODI series?

Looks a fair enough side TEC, would be happy with that. Reckon Wright has done *just* about enough in recent times to deserve his place in the side. Not a strong enough bowler to expect he will bowl his 10 all the time but I'd be surprised if Collingwood hasn't been averaging over 5 overs a game his last 50 games and you have Trott in there as well so some options.

edit: 295.5 overs in his last 55 games suggests he and Wright can share the 5th bowler option with help from Trott & KP

The case for Yardy is getting stronger with each strangulating bowling performance he puts in in limited overs games. He now (weirdly) can be considered a leading limited overs bowler, added to which he is able to play key innings under pressure (as you know he plays in FC cricket as a specialist batsman). Add his solid temperament and you have a very useful player. I'm biased obviously but if I had to choose between him and Wright for the all-rounders spot in an England ODI team I'd probably go for Yardy.

Hoping that Bangladesh can put up a better fight than they did in the Asia Cup. Really thought they were taking good strides until that tournament, when they mainly seemed to rely on Tamim. They need their middle and lower order to step up a lot more, because their bowling attack is going to struggle to keep England under 300.

Unless Mashrafe REALLY takes to captaincy and Shakib REALLY takes to not being captain.

Hard to see why this tour is still dribbling on, given that the Tests were done with some weeks ago. I suppose it's good for the Bangladesh players to get as much experience as they can, but today's sort of performance would tend to suggest that they are demoralised and looking forward to getting home, and that's not likely to amount to a terribly productive learning process for them.
