In the same way you lot were saying Hughes was the next big thing. That and because some English fans were saying he is the next big thing after his 3 centuries against WI

Yes because centuries in South Africa are the same as ones against a West Indies side who did not want to be there and could not catch....In the same way you lot were saying Hughes was the next big thing.
Tiny, pedantic point, but the first of Ravi's tons was away in the Windies. Would hope they wanted to be there at least...Yes because centuries in South Africa are the same as ones against a West Indies side who did not want to be there and could not catch....
They still couldn't catch though.Tiny, pedantic point, but the first of Ravi's tons was away in the Windies. Would hope they wanted to be there at least...
Think Ravi's going to be a great player of mediocre bowling rather than a good test player tho. Seems to lose his head completely when he gets tied down and tries to hit out; his highest score against Oz was the streakiest 35 I can remember. Got a test more than I would've given him so, by rights, should be a way back in the pecking order now, IMHO.
Both failed though and Hughes was hyped up even more and he has a massive problem against the short ball.He won't be a success with such a huge chink in his armour.Yes because centuries in South Africa are the same as ones against a West Indies side who did not want to be there and could not catch....
This. There is more to picking a Test side than numbers. Otherwise Ramprakash would be first bloke on the plane to Australia this winter.
An Ashes series is about the mental side of the game. All cricketers on either side are talented and able. It's the mentally strong ones who can make the difference in a tight series.
Think guys like Warne, McGrath, Ponting, Pietersen, Flintoff.
The bloke has courage and cricketing smarts, and he is getting better every game he plays. The Aussie bowling attack will be doing cartwheels if England pick blokes like Carberry, Bopara, etc cause they simply don't have the bottle.
Get behind Morgan I reckon, cause he's one bloke who looks like he has the gonads to make a fist of an Ashes tour, rather than some punter who averages 44 year after year on the county treadmill.
I've been consistently against his selection in the Test side, but to be honest, 2 Tests against Bangladesh will tell us far more about Morgan's prospects in that arena than sending him back to Middlesex will.Just Morgan's FC record is so average and his 2009 season was so poor.. I'm not sure it sends the right message.
I know his List A and Domestic T20 records aren't as special as his ODI or T20I but I'm not sure that you can expect the same to happen for his FC and Test records.
His selection just doesn't sit well with me.
Just check his Test & FC record againBoth failed though and Hughes was hyped up even more and he has a massive problem against the short ball.He won't be a success with such a huge chink in his armour.
Check his record against England.Just check his Test & FC record again
Just 3 innings?Check his record against England.
SA bowled short and Hughes manage to negotiate them, I think the occasion got to him more than anything and he was jumping around in the crease.Yeah, but it wasn't just the stats in those 3 innings that were the problem, it was the way he was completely found out as soon as he stepped into a match against proper bowling. Harmison dominated him in the Lions game, and then he was a lamb to slaughter in the Test matches; and bar a flurry of boundaries at Cardiff thanks to some dire bowling he did nothing. South Africa must be disappointed that they didn't notice his quite obvious technical flaws.
yup looked quite poor vs Pakistan aswellYeah, but it wasn't just the stats in those 3 innings that were the problem, it was the way he was completely found out as soon as he stepped into a match against proper bowling. But he hasn't since though has he.SA bowled short and Hughes manage to negotiate them, I think the occasion got to him more than anything and he was jumping around in the crease.
Anyways you guys could keep saying he is found out, meanwhile at the same time he piles on the runs
Didn't he make a run a ball 84 in his last innings? Not really his fault that he is injured and is on and off from the team. But he hasn't since though has he.
He got out for 0 on a the most greenish pitch I have ever seen, and was unlucky on the 2nd innings that the ball gripped of the rough and the most surprising reflex catch by Kaneria.yup looked quite poor vs Pakistan aswell
