*Official* Bangladesh in England

I'm not saying he's going to fail. I just disagree with his selection. Oh and how much use are runs against Bangladesh when it comes to judging a player?

Is it really that far out of the question that we'd go with 5 bowlers? Anderson and Finn opening, Bresnan first change and Swanneh isn't the best of attacks, especially when the only bowlers in the top 6 are KP and then Trott/Bell.

Called Morgan's debut here back on 21st Jan & here on the 16th May.

Think there's something to be said for the idea you learn more about a bloke's ticker scoring runs under the cosh against Steyn, Bond, Nannes, Aamer, Tait et al in T20 than against AN Honest-Countytrundler against three men and a dog in the CC. Ideally you want players to be doing both, but trust Flower's eye tbh.

I seem to recall advocating him too - oodles of runs in the LVCC will not matter one jot come Day One at Brisbane - Jardinian guts will - Morgan has what it takes

Don't mind the selection of Morgan too much but still feel that 6 bats against this side is one too many and we are in desperate need of finding a number 3 more than we are in need of another middle order player. As it is we will go into the ashes with a dodgy number 3 and have three people fighting over the slots at 5 and 6 with KP a certainty for 4 and we will be a bowler light.

I don't know. Morgan obviously has the mental aspects of the game covered so it begs the querstion why he flopped so spectacularly in Division 2 of the CC last year, why his FC record isn't anything special at all.
There are players with less technique, less ability, less determination etc etc who all have better records than him. Why?

Morgan will only cover for Collingwood for 2 Tests. It's just a quick look at him to see if he will fill the number 5 spot when Collingwood retires. Morgan is only 23. I doubt he will be going to Australia. The reserve batsman on that tour might be Carberry.

I thought the big surprise was Sidebottom's omission. He was probably told they need 6 fast bowlers for Australia and they need to give Bresnan and Finn more Test experience.

Yeah, happy with Morgan as I said before, he is Colly's replacement for the future, and so should deputise for him here. As others have stated, Vaughn, Tresco and Colly all had average f-c records when they started. and they all worked out okay.

Shahzad was predictable too, they clearly see something in the guy.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how he goes. Given how well he's played in International cricket I think he can step-up and do well.
Limited overs success doesn't mean a guy will do well in Tests from the start. Look at Guptill for NZ. Abundance of talent, looks wonderful in ODIs, but apart from one good ton against Bangladesh, has struggled in the longer form so far.

I wish Morgan the best, but wouldn't be surprised if he went the same way early in his Test career - flashy 20s and 30s before getting himself out.

There is more to picking a Test side than numbers. Otherwise Ramprakash would be first bloke on the plane to Australia this winter.

An Ashes series is about the mental side of the game. All cricketers on either side are talented and able. It's the mentally strong ones who can make the difference in a tight series.

Think guys like Warne, McGrath, Ponting, Pietersen, Flintoff.

The bloke has courage and cricketing smarts, and he is getting better every game he plays. The Aussie bowling attack will be doing cartwheels if England pick blokes like Carberry, Bopara, etc cause they simply don't have the bottle.

Get behind Morgan I reckon, cause he's one bloke who looks like he has the gonads to make a fist of an Ashes tour, rather than some punter who averages 44 year after year on the county treadmill.

I think if they wanted to give an opportunity to a younger player, I don't see why luke wright wasn't above morgan in the pecking order. He has a much better recent FC record, has some bowling to replace collys and has also been impressive in the t20 world cup. Plus iirc he was in the squad last time around so it's more consistent.

Sorry, but Luke Wright simply does not have the talent/skill to be a successful test cricketer (especially against a side like australia).

Why do people despise Bopara btw? I mean I can understand not wanting him in the team, but he seems a nice lad.

Bopara thinks he is a far greater player than he is.That is why he is disliked. He talks the talk but doesn't have the technical or mental ability to walk the walk.
