Heh, amusing and not completely unexpected, but also disappointing. Highlights that there's almost chance of any club ever creating any sort of a dynasty again so long as the current salary cap remains, which imo is a sad thing. The cap works to well...

There's going to be a lot more come from this, if the Storm can actually survive this they are going to be a shambles for a while. Be interesting to see which players go.

Agree its not unexpected but the magnitude is huge, makes the Bulldogs of 2002 look like amatuers

Will be interesting to see how the players react...be a weird feeling knowing that your 20 remaining matches for the season are all worth nothing.

I predict the players will abandon the club, which will probably fold anyway - as sponsors won't go near it, and it now owes millions and was practically broke anyway.

It just makes a joke of the whole code for the last few years.

What a fraud.

And the winner is...

The AFL!

They must be loving this.
Don't see how it will effect AFL at all tbh, if it was Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sydney or something then AFL might directly get something from it. Being Melbourne though I suspect your average AFL supporter in Victoria wont give this another thought in about two weeks, plus I can't see fans of other sides abandoning the game for what has happened in Melbourne.

Wow, saw a headline on the NRL website this morning about betting on Melbourne coming last being suspended and thought 'why the hell would anyone be betting on them to come last!?'. This explains it.

Which clubs have money left over to pick up some big names?

The AFL has 10 teams in Melbourne. The Storm were extremely successful, and when you add the Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart... the AFL was being challenged in the Melb market, which was becoming saturated.

There was talk of the Victory and Storm linking up to have a dual membership option.

That just got thrown out the window.

Ironic that is coming from a Carlton fan. The Storm's former CEO used to be the former CEO of St Kilda, maybe there were a few tricks learnt there.

But wow, seriously couldn't believe it when I heard about it.

Didn't hear the news until I arrived home.

Something should have clicked, as I was walking through Fed Square after work a man was standing on the steps screaming "**** you Storm, **** you".

But are the AFL losing any sponsors, fans or anything like that to the Storm? Sure the Storm were gaining fans but they were still also AFL fans (I'm presuming).

Victorians already love AFL pretty much as much as possible. I agree that noone outside Melbourne will care much. The Melbourne Rebel's wont be complaining...might even sign a couple of storm players themselves if they are going.... Wonder if Brian Waldron will be affected?

I believe Waldron was heavily involved, they have thrown the word "Fraud" around a fair bit which obviously then becomes a criminal investigation so he'd be screwed.

Didn't a few people at the Bulldogs when they got done were sent to jail as a result? I guess now we can see why he resigned from the Storm to go to the Melbourne Rebels instead. It makes you wonder if any other clubs will now come under scrunity as a result. So if even if Melbourne win, they won't get any points, but neither will the opposition team as a result?

I really feel for the Manly and Parramatta fans, to say they must be feeling filthy, would be the understatement of the century thus far. I'm really sorry that this has happened, and I hope the ****s who were behind this get some time behind bars and the key gets "accidently" lost.

As for the AFL, Collingwood just signed up 50,000 members, and this weekend's ANZAC Day game at the 'G will be close to a sell out, so I don't think the game is dying, or losing.

Obviously teams beating Melbourne will get points, but no it's not an automatic 2 points win or lose.

I don't agree with any argument saying Manly (07) and Eels (09) should get the premiership, anything could have happened had they been playing another team in the grand final etc... No way can they retrospectively award the titles to them.
