All well and good if he's failing but he was right near the top in all forms of the game for SA. They've carried blokes doing far worse for longer. Why pick him for all 3 forms then decide to cut him? It's at best inconsistent. Put it this way, SA can't afford to lose him even with all his foibles and there's no-one any better around to fill the breach.

Christ, if 'not living up to one's potential' was enough to get you cut, Borgas should have played his last state game years ago. They first picked him at 17 almost 10 years ago and he's barely averaged 30 for that time. The ROI must surely be looking a bit shaky......
what does the bolded bit mean?

My cousin is best mates with James Pattinson. Is he moving states?

Also is there any news on any Sydney Grade players getting contracts anywhere, Brockley?
I'm pretty sure he's locked in for a fair bit. NSW threw a big contract at him when he was a rookie at Victoria, and Victoria responded.

Manly's Tim Cruickshank has gained interest from Tasmania to play Sheffield Shield cricket
TASMANIAN head coach Tim Coyle has targeted star Manly batsman Tim Cruickshank for next summer.

The Waratahs right-hand batsman is coming off his finest season, having belted 992 runs in all forms of the game.

The 27-year-old also successfully played for the NSW second XI this summer, pocketing a century and a half-century in his only two appearances for the state.

Only work commitments prevented Cruickshank playing in a further three matches for NSW.

But while officials within the Sydney Cricket Ground ponder their roster for next season, the Tigers have already shown strong interest in the Manly junior. Coyle told The Manly Daily on Tuesday Cruickshank has the game to comfortably settle into the Tigers 2010-11 squad.

“He’s obviously been in the grade system for quite some time now and has been a very successful player,” Coyle said.

“He’s scored a lot of runs and is ready to play at first-class level. We’ve heard good things about him and seen bits of him play, we think he would be a good fit in Tasmania.”

Coyle said the recent retirement of Daniel Marsh, and Cricket Australia’s contract distributions next month, will play a role in Tasmania’s desire to pursue Cruickshank.

“There’s a spot in the middle order there,” he said. “We are also keen to explore options at the top of the order.”

Ex-Tasmanian wicket-keeper Mark Atkinson, who is based in Sydney and acts as an advisor for the island-state, said Cruickshank could easily handle the move down south.

“I think Tim would go well at that level,” Atkinson said of Cruickshank playing in the Sheffield Shield for the Tigers. “I’d like to see him get the opportunity.”

Evan gulbris vic did he get contract or has he gone to play grde in tasmania?
Moved to Tassie is what I heard.

Vic, what's Gulbis's average in Victorian grade cricket. You seemed to talk him up highly, yet I'm not sure whether he actually is that good....

In all the numerous times that you've seen him?

Seriously, a lot of people have long held doubts about any ability to stand up against a higher quality of bowling, but over the past few years, he's just continued to churn out runs and more runs. It's got to the point where there's not been much more that he can do, especially considering that he hasn't gotten many games for the 2nd XI.

2009/10: 979 runs @ 54.4; 5 x 100.
2008/09: 746 runs @ 43.88; 4 x 100 (not including a 124* off 57 balls in a Twenty20)
2007/08: 653 runs @ 40.81; 2 x 100

Melbourne is a lower scoring grade competition than Sydney. It's a pretty outstanding record for a guy who is 24.

That does seem good if you say that Melbourne is a lower scoring grade competition than Sydney. Thought '16 district tons' was pretty average at first glance. :p

I think that only 10 or so batsmen, at most, have ever scored over 1000 runs in a season in Melbourne. And in the past two years, we've played two less matches a year (only 15 games now), although Gulbis has played finals as well.

You'd have come up against him, yeah? From your perspective, can he play? if so, any insight as to why he's not been tried at Shield level?

Personally, I think he'll end up being another Darren Dempsey. Not sure if you remember him, but he dominated grade cricket in Melbourne, couldn't get a look in and headed over to SA for a game and failed. Rather similar players; like to bully the bowling, whack the ball hard, rely on being balanced and simple footwork, rather than big strides.

Fair few reasons why he hasn't gotten a look in:
  • Didn't come across well to people when he was a younger fella. Used to be called "Aker" down at Carlton (his club) for a while, in honour of Jason Akermanis.
  • Not always the smartest cricketer. Has worked on this recently though, and this is one of the reasons why he gets so many hundreds, he's prepared to play within himself once he's on top and the field is back.
  • Seen as being very front foot reliant, and Princes Park (his home ground) has tended to be pretty slow and low in recent times.
  • Against a battery of quality bowlers, some may believe that the jury is still out. However, without playing many 2nd XI games, he has hardly received the chance to prove them wrong.

I've played against him a few times, got him out a couple of times, but he's usually hit me for a few zacs before then. Got dropped this year before playing the Blues, and he got a ton and was super impressive, according to the boys.

Jamie cox on conflict of interest in the same position as david boon and ashley giles.
Heard some tale siddle could be playing more at shield level net year, dunno if rumour.
I think NSW should sign most their bowlers, more worried we my lose talented batsmen or 2.
Grant lmbert well he can go and so can brakken.

South Australia should sign a pace bowler like ****ley or Cameron, they know how to take wickets on flat tracks ( adelaide oval ) and ****ley is still pretty young.

"NSW has a surfeit of fast bowlers. While Doug Bollinger and Brett Lee are on CA contracts, promising pacemen Mark Cameron, Burt ****ley, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and late-season sensation Trent Copeland are all contracted to the state."
According to the australin.

Tim Cruickshank averaged 42 last season, 34 the season before and 18 the season before that (which also saw him play 1 second grade game). Has only scored 3 first grade 100's in that period and is 27 years old and picks up a state contract. Hmmm.
