Semi Finals - Meknes, Morocco
Singles

• A stunning turnaround saw number 1 seed Johan Ortiz ousted in 3 sets by unheralded Chilean Rodrigo Jerez. Ortiz laboured to a first set win after a single break of serve midway through the set. However, Ortiz appeared flustered by the occasion and Jerez gained a steady foothold on the Ortiz serve. Two swift breaks at the start of the 2nd, and 2 at the start of the 3rd were enough to take the match despite a late comeback attempt from the Colombian. Jerez through 4 - 6, 6 - 2, 6 - 4.
• The 2nd semi-final between comeback kid Koal Kao (who has fought back from a set down in two previous encounters against seeded players) and Phoenix Wleft was a sell out, with press from throughout the world there to watch two of CWLand's best young starlets in action. From the start, there was thick tension in the air, with a shoulder-to-shoulder collision at the change of ends leading to an intervention from the Umpire. As in the two previous rounds, Kao came out of the blocks slowly, Wleft effortlessly moving to a 3 - 0 lead. Serving for the set, Wleft let out a loud yell as he took the set 6 - 4. However, again, as in the previous two rounds, Kao started to find his range and started to give Wleft the run around. Wleft grew increasingly annoyed as Kao sent him running all round the court. It was at this stage that the shoulder barge occurred which briefly caused Kao to stumble backwards, hitting a ballboy with his racquet. As Wleft grew more frustrated, Kao grew in stature and took the final set with ease, progressing 4 - 6, 6 - 3, 6 - 2.

Doubles Final

• After a successful week for Koal Kao and Phoenix Wleft it all came unstuck in the Doubles final against Christophe Durand & Sebastian Lachance amidst angst and bitter recriminations. Despite the ugly encounter in the Singles tournament earlier, the match started well for the CWLand pairing as they took an early break to lead 3 - 1. However, the wheels came off the wagon as Wleft served wildly into the small of Kao's back. Following a couple of minutes of racquet brandishing, pointing and shouting, the match continued with Wleft double faulting and double faulting again to lose the game. From 3 - 1 up, it was soon back to all square at 5 - 5. Wleft serving again and the same result; two double faults and a break of serve. The Frenchmen taking the set 7 - 5. The 2nd set was a waltz for the French duo as Wleft again dropped serve twice, but showed how far he's come in the game in so short a time with some brutal returns from the Lachance serve to break back. Too little, too late. 7 - 5, 6 - 3 to the French pairing.

• It was the final no one had expected. Koal Kao, the youngster from the West CWLand Republic against Rodrigo Jerez. Jerez, the World #247 versus Kao, the World #259. Both would be moving up the rankings after Meknes, but only one would have the silverware. Well, he'd come back from a set down in three consecutive games, but couldn't do it in the final as the inevitable Kao comeback stumbled in the 2nd set tiebreaker. Jerez persisted into the start of the 2nd, taking a break of serve to lead 3 - 1 before the Kao comeback started as expected. However, that break that Jerez took enabled him to take the set to a tie break where the Chilean dominated proceedings - taking 5 points in a row from 3 - 2 down to take away the silverware. 6 - 3, 7 - 6 (7 - 3)
