Give me 12 months to do your version of our Legal Practice Course and I will be up for it.

I visited Sydney last year. Stayed at the Travellodge on Wentworth Avenue (the glamour). Great city. How many bats in your gardens? :-O
A fair few fly over, but not that many reside here. A couple of cricket bats though :).

My name is Siva. I live in Chennai, India. And I work in movies. I am embarrassed to say I am 35 years old but I still love cricket as much as anyone two decades younger to me.

Grew up in a small village down south where I was the best off spinner in the vicinity. Once took 7 for 1 including a hat-trick. It was on this beautiful little ground next to an old CSI church. Like Lords', the pitch in the middle had a slope and I was bowling downhill. Well, everyone bowled downhill because we had only four stumps so we never changed ends.

The first batsman swept me and got caught at square leg. Had he hit me towards midwicket it was a certain four. We never placed fielders in midwicket because that was where four cows belonging to the church used to graze, crap and sleep - even during the matches.

The second guy got stumped. He wanted to hit me straight over my head. The straight boundary was much shorter and ended at the father's garden. but the batter missed the ball by six inches; flight does that you :). My good friend, the wk, finished the job.

The third one fell to a beauty. I remember the ball pitching well outside the off stump. It spun viciously between Martin's (the opposition's star batter and the guy who was close enough to the church authorities to get us permission to play there) bat and left-pad (we managed with the one pair of pads one of us had, the right leg was always naked and all batted right handed) and took middle and leg. it is still the greatest moment of my life. what martin doesnt know till today, he is the gardener in the church these days, is that the ball that got him actually slipped out of my hand.

the street i grew up in became the name of our cricket team. and it eventually became my nick on CW.

I am a close relative of the Right Honourable Tarquin Fin-tim-lim-bim-whin-bim-lim-busstop-f'tang-f'tang-olè-biscuitbarrel, which gives a clue to my age

I have been on CW around two years and, being completely innumerate, have lost count of how many interesting and knowledgable people I have met here

I love cricket and its history and am often found inhabiting threads that are about the game in days gone by

I will maintain to my dying day that I am a genuine Lancastrian and my greatest hope is to live long enough to see the 75 years of pain assuaged

The bloke in my avatar is the late great Robin Friday
In case anyone's interested, there is a clip of Robin Friday on youtube which gives the merest glimpse of his extraordinary talent.

I'm Jake, I'm 14, been into Cricket since 2004. The 2005 Ashes is my earliest memory of cricket, possibly my worst, to go with 2009. I love Cricket, especially the Ashes. I've been into rugby league for around the same time as Cricket, but recently, this year, I've extended my sports to Golf, Soccer and AFL.

Shri

Mr. Glass
I am Shri from Chennai, India. Got into cricket even before I properly learned to run as a kid. Grew up in a joint family for my first few years. Had a lot of elder cousin brothers who started using me as the designated ball boy right from when I was around 5 years old.

Couldn't bowl or bat with them till I was around 9 as I had apparently not 'graduated' to that level. Quickly went on to become the best offie in my family in another 6 years. Couldn't bat if my life depended on it when I was around 12. Chris Martin was Bradman compared to me at that stage with the bat. That was when I went out with my brothers to play a 'real' game that actually involved a cricket ball(used to play using tennis and rubber balls before that) as the spinner in the side wasn't available - was a bet match btw.

Couldn't bowl well in that game and kept moving away when the ball came my way when fielding. The opposition started treating me as a joke and started bowling very very slow while mocking me. Scored fifteen runs in that game but batted for 5 hours. Made them bowl fast at me in frustration and made them tire out. The batsmen at the other end scored well and we won in the end(with me still unbeaten on 15!). Started attending cricket camps from then on and became a decent all round spin bowler when I was about 15. Became the main all rounder(i.e 12th man ) in the school side when I finished high school. That innings of 15 was what got me into cricket seriously. Still have the best defense in the place where I live.:p

There, the end of a totally unimportant story. Every one has wrote something, I will do it too, what the hell?

That sounds an epic 15no, Shri. If you've since become an all rounder I imagine your highest score has since improved?

 Great story, Shri.

I was shoehorned into a wicket-keeper/opening batsman role in my school team because I lacked the skills to be a specialist batsman or a bowler, and my mates didn't have the heart not to pick me. In the nets, I was a real stonewaller and used to be referred to as a "Strokeless Wonder". Unfortunately, I was given out LBW on the first ball when I went out to open in an actual inter-school match. :( After that, I was demoted down the order. I took a couple of good catches and made a stumping though, and we won that match, so all was forgiven. :)

that siva is an actor. i am not. :)
:) yeah, I actually have met him on a couple of occassions. So was wondering if I had stumbled on to him on a cricket forum.. :p

Honestly though, couldn't imagine him making those great posts on all the greats, for some reason. ;)

ha ha. will tell him the next time i run into him. i dont think he is into cricket history even if he follows the game like most.

actually, i have worked under only two guys in movies - one is a famous director and he is cricket diehard. in fact he was caught on tv watching last weekend's CSK home game in IPL; the other one is the most acclaimed actor we have and he hates cricket. i was his exec producer when sachin overtook lara's aggregate two years ago. i quickly organized a party in his office to mark the occasion. but he barely stayed for a few minutes before leaving us cricket nuts to continue with the celebrations. will write in detail sometime later in OT about movie guys and their cricket connection.
