I just think he's over-the-hill.

I didn't think he was that effective against Pakistan, but he did get that key wicket of Yousuf in the 2nd innings of the first test.

I find he is really lacking in penetration and aggression. But, like you said, you could say that about all our bowlers.

Real pity about the retirements of Bond and O'Brien. They will be missed so, so much.
though he bowled well against Pakistan. Didnt have much luck

Just wanted to come in here for a once only (i promise) gloat about Styris

Some of you know i have been pushing his case for reselection for a while and have been very vocal in doing this

Whilst i didnt get to see much of the series (hugely disappointing) and judging purely on a scorecard he looked head and shoulders above other players who certain members of these boards compared him too cough Broom cough Stewart cough

So thank you and yes i know nobody likes a sore winner and please Mr Styris back it up again so i dont have to listen to more replace him talk

He is one of our great ODI players and i do think we need him for the World Cup in the sub continent

Broom's time will come again.

But not before Williamson gets a go, I imagine.

Who will the selectors realistically pick as the top 3? Is Watling assured a place?

Playing him in obviously his least preferred format, which would have been ok, had he still been selected for the tests. Getting dropped for the tests, when he has been one of the best FC performers over the past 2-3 seasons because of poor form in ODI cricket is pretty harsh.

I hope so, he should be there ahead of Ingram.
Why?

Watling will be there. If the selectors are fair (ha!), McIntosh will be the one in the most danger, because he's been meh for a lot longer than Watling and Ingram, who are both pretty new in the test side.

Surprised Sinclair was picked. I don't really back it either, why is he all of a sudden going to be a success? I know that if you give a player that on face value seems average enough chances, they can eventually find a way to succeed or at least improve (O'Brien, Elliott, McIntosh and Hopkins) but Sinclair has had a million chances, I don't think it will work.

Not Terrible
Sinclair won't be a success in all likelihood but he could still churn out an average of 30 which is acceptable at the moment.

Maybe.

For now I'd stick with the current top three rather than play musical chairs with batsmen that for various reasons (test experience, inconsistency, not being very good etc) will all average about the same as each other.

Have Sinclair as cover, nothing more.

We need to stick with someone eventually. McIntosh can be used as a buy for time until the likes of Brodie have hammered down the door but I don't think we should swap one maybe for another maybe.

So we're really going into a test with a 6-7-8 of Vettori-McCullum-Tuffey?

Despite Tuffey's recent batting heroics... it just boggles my mind, especially when you consider that Martin is one of the tail-enders: our 8-9-10-11 will barely average 30 (Arnel's FC batting average is six, I think) and considering our top three is also paper - I feel sorry for Taylor with the amount of pressure that will be on him

Sigh, we're really missing Ryder. He could be a decent 5th bowling option. With the current side if we were to play Vettori plus three quicks we'd look light on an extra bowling option (assuming McIntosh, Watling, Ingram, Taylor, Guptill are the top 5, specialist bat 6, then Vettori/McCullum). Styris would come in handy here.

Mind you, Sincas been doing a bit of bowling...
