Tendulkar's injury was over hyped by the media and fans. Tendulkar himself said in an interview to Bhogle about a year back that too much was made of his tennis elbow. Even Kallis had tennis elbow and not much was made of it he said. And every one goes through a bad period. It was ridiculous how much Tendulkar was scruitinised. You say people regard him as God and so don't tolerate criticism of him but four years back, it was just the opposite. No one was tolerating some one like me who backed Tendulkar. He was not that old for ****s sake.

I believe in the maxim that player has the right to decide when to retire. If he is dropped, it is fair enough but no one should say publicly some one should retire. It is disrespectful and shortsighted IMO.

OMG, It is so funny to hear you talk about disrespect and shortsightedness, when you yourself not too long ago accused Tendulkar of Choking after he scored 175 runs.

Against most comments (mostly by Indians) are okay with what Ian Chappell said.

Also, I had more balls than Chappell and faced far more wrath than Chappell to say Tendulkar was not past it. Almost every one I knew wrote him off.

OMG, Now you are comparing yourself to Ian Chappell ? It is always about you, isn't it ?. Who really gives a damn about how many balls you have got. Please do not quote my post if you are going to be so full of yourself.

Chappelli is being paid to do a job, he owes it to his his listeners/readers that he is honest about the issues he is commenting/writing about. When he made that comment it was a perfectly valid question in the minds of a lot of fans. I am glad that Chappell raised it and the voice of the fans was heard.

Tendulkar's "choking" tendencies are often way over-stated, but there was a period between '99-'07 when they could not be completely ignored either. These were a few high-profile pressure situations when he underperformed for several reasons :

- Eden Gardens '01 against Australia (this one became a big one more in hindsight).
- India in W. Indies 2002.
- India vs. Australia Nagpur '04 (excusable due to injury issues).
- India vs. Pakistan Bangalore '05.
- Pakistan vs. India Karachi '06.
- India vs. England Wankhede '06.
- S. Africa vs. India Cape Town '07.

Throw in a couple of failures in high-profile WC matches against Australia (which I completely disagree with considering his overall performance in the tournament) and Sri Lanka in WC '07 and you could see where the critics were coming from. And I say all this as a huge fan of Sachin.

However, since WC '07, he has cast that tag away completely, and he has become India's best crunch batsman - a fact which I believe is not appreciated fully. Here are his crunch performances since then :

- India vs. Pakistan Delhi '07 (56 n.o. chasing 200 odd in the 4th innings).
- 117 n.o. and 91 in the final of the CB Series '08.
- Performances against Australia in the '07-'08 Test series in Oz.
- Rearguard action alongside VVS to save the Bangalore Test against Australia in '08.
- Century in the last Test in Nagpur.
- 103 n.o against England in Chennai '08.
- Several valuable knocks against New Zealand in the '09 Test series.
- Century in the final of the Compaq Cup (OK, this one was a pretty minor event).
- 100 n.o. against SL in Ahmedabad '09 after conceding a big 1st innings lead.
- 175 against Australia chasing 350.
- 100 n.o against Bangladesh when India were in danger of being embarrassed.
- 100 against S. Africa in a losing effort in Nagpur recently.

The one notable failure in this period came in the Test series in SL. Apart from that, he's been fantastic under pressure.

The difference is I said so when he was failing consistently and you said so when he scored 175.

And I admit I was Harsh, even though my comments were not because of Tendulkar's performance but because of his fanatics who wouldn't let anyone criticize his poor performance. Whatever was the cause of my reaction, I was harsh in saying so over and over again and I have no shame in admitting that.

Lastly You forgive yourself for Tendulkar once yet continue to harp about Ian Chappell for stating the one time.

Again, who cares If you know Amit Varma or not, It is not about you or him. Amit's blog link was posted because a discussion took place on his blog about the comments Ian Chappell made.

I don't have to take your word on Public perception, I read enough to know what public perception is and those blogs, IMO, reflect it to the T.

Oh God, its height of mixing one point with another. That link was posted in response to you incorrect claim that Tendulkar injury was 'hyped' by media/fans. It has nothing to with anyone writting him off.

Another thing I would like to point out to Sanz, Ian Chappell said it. So what the ****. Read Amit Varma's post in the blog post you linked to. As Amit says, and I said, Tendulkar has the right to decide when to retire not you or I. READ FFS.

And I won't kiss the feet of Ian Chappell just because he gets paid to write on cricket. Ian Healy gets paid to comment on cricket but guess what, even you make more sense about the game than Healy. Again, Heh.
