Cricketweb XI vs England
@ Fardin Qayyumi CC (1st T20I)
Scorecard
Fans waited outside for the gates to open for hours as Cricketweb XI hosted their first international Twenty20 match on home soil in over a year. With the home nation showing signs of being a dominant force in this form of the game after the success of their domestic sides at the recent champions league, it was no surprise that competition for spots in this team is fierce and there are plenty of guys hoping to put their hand up in this match. England's squad has suffered a revamp after their poor showing in the best matches with no less than nine new faces in the 15 man touring party.
England skipper Paul Collingwood won the toss and elected to bat on a sensational looking surface, Johnathan Trott was first to go as he skied one to debutaunt Josh Ritchie at extra cover in the fourth over, Kevin Pietersen fell soon after as Neil Pickup brought himself into the attack with immediate results, Collingwood himself struggled as Ritchie picked up his second catch, this time off Martyn Corrin. Wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter looked in decent touch before running himself out for 32 and with the score at 69/5 it was looking unlikely that England could post a competitive total. The lower order however stuck around and made life interesting for Neil Pickup and his side, Luke Wright in particular threatened to take the game away from the hosts as he struck three consecutive boundaries off Liam Camps before he became Corrin's second wicket. A late cameo of 28 not out from Graeme Swann where he was particuarly brutal to Xavier Rose gave England a final tally of 149/7 from their 20 overs, spinners Martyn Corrin and Neil Pickup the stars with the ball with a couple of wickets each.
The home fans were expecting a comfortable chase by their team as James Stedman and Hakon Mork got things off to a sensational start, going at over 10 an over the victory target was reducing at a rapid rate and was only slowed when Graeme Napier removed James Stedman for 28, there was further joy for England next ball when Mork pushed one to backward point only for Sean Fuller to charge off down the other end, Morks shout of NO was too late and Fuller was out after facing just the one delivery. David Kearsley's evening wasn't much better as he lasted just two balls while Sam Morris looked right at hope in this format of the game in make 28. Josh Ritchie joined Mork at the crease to finish the job in the 17th over with the former finishing 20 not out. The star though was the test wicketkeeper who blasted a career high 72 not out from 45 balls to claim man of the match honours, in the end it was a 6 wicket win to Cricketweb XI.
