I think we were discussing potential options for the Australian series, don't get me wrong I think Yovich is quite a good FC allrounder, but his bowling will never be of international quality - that is his main knock... Nathan McCullum is a potential one for the future maybe, he actually did better than OK in India and picked up a heck of alot of wickets in the "tests" for NZ 'A'. It is all well and good thinking outside the sqaure and making suggestions, but this is Test cricket against Australia we are talking about after all, so you probably do not want to be suggesting lightly...I am not sure that I appreciate having my post called ignorant. In its defence 3 or 4 members of the New Zealand team are not test quality. Patel has a FC average of 39 and a batting average of 13. Yovich has a bowling average of 33 and a batting average of 29. Who would you prefer - the selectors went with Patel. I am sure that Yovich would not have embarrassed himself and now at 247/5 having him coming in next ahead of Tuffey wouldn't be such a bad thing.
The other suggestion I thought I said was Nathan McCullum who has been on NZ A tours and did ok. The major knock on Yovich is his age.
I think people should be allowed to think outside of the square and make suggestions.
I know Guptill's ODI and test bowling averages look classy, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.excellent batting by mccullum and guptil. now with 2 of the classiest spinners in the world in our side we can reallt put pressure on the bungladeshis

Thats correct and was pointed out by the Sky commentators last night. I guess theres still a preconception that the light is offered to the batsmen even though the ICC has altered that rule.I thought the light was no longer "offered" anymore, and the decision was solely up to the umpires?
Oops. Bet both batsmen, whilst they both played brilliantly in their respective innings, will share a touch of disappointment at not scoring double tons. Though considering we were 5/160, declaring with 550+ on the board is fantastic.Although I don't want to tempt fate, its difficult to bet against them not making double centuries with the Bangladeshi attack firing few shots.
Agree entirely, thought we were going to struggle to make 300 at one stage.Oops.
