Given that he's (presumably) being made captain, it's reasonable to assume Capello would have picked him anyway. In any case, he's not going to pick someone he doesn't think is part of his best team just because he made them captain four months earlier.

I don't think he's in the current team. Lamps is playing better than him this year and Capello doesn't like playing both of them. Even if he is ahead of Lampard, it's very marginal and you don't really want a captain whose place in the side is so ambiguous.

Not that Rio's ideal though...

Unless the shagging is revealed to the public its not comparable. It just remains part of player personal life that is no fans buisness.

Of course being ENG captain the player needs to be a strong role model, given the significance of what being 'ENG captain" means to our sporting culture. Theirfore the player may have to adjust certain lifestyle patterns just in the prowling media catches in him something that could affect him. But the ultimate judgement to chosing that player to be captain, has to come from what the player does on the field.

Terry was the perfect captain based on his on-field exploits. If this girl didn't come out & reveal his personal life situation which for obvious reasons could affect team morale at a time ENG don't need that. We as fans would have never known..

Yes fool i believe Owen should be the ENG WC squad. This is contentious issue amongst most ENG fans, you take a poll in ENG 2day i'm failry certain it would spilt 50/50 if you ask the question "Should Capello pick Owen in the WC squad". So dont try to paint it as i alone have this POV, the world of football views doesn't revovle around what i said in this football thread on CW.

Can't see how anyone could back Owen for the WC unless they have nostalgic rose tinted glasses. Rooney and Defoe are clearly out best goalscoring threats. Heskey is the preferred lump, so with it being realistically 1 other (guessing he'll go for 4 with a midfielder like Theo making up the numbers, or Gerrard/cole as the support attacker plan C), he'll either pick

Crouch - because he's gash at club but prolific for country, the new Vassell...
Bent - Because he's been quite decent for club
Carlton Cole - because he's not been too shabby for club or country, though not exactly set the world alight this year

Owen's so far down the pecking order now he's not really worth considering unless he starts to play more for us and take more chances. If Gerrard is fit, he's in the team. Where did you get the idea that Capello doesn't like playing both of them? His tenure has been praised for trying to use both of them and succeeding. Gerrard for Capello has been playing on the left with a free role to get inside and switch with Rooney.

I personally have asked the question alot here in Manchester in recent months amongst serious footballs & its evenly spit, thats why i said 50/50. Its a pretty contentious topic among football fans in this country ATM.

IMO Warnock is not international quality regardless of his form for Villa ATM. I put on the same level is Nick Shorey - which is a good club player.

If Bridge is indeed not going to go as left-back back-up to Cole, id rather Baines & Gibbs - not Warnock at all.
