Round 1 results

Family all gone :)

The following have been drafted:

K Akmal - metallics2006
L Ames - pskov
M Boucher - Noble One (default selection as no entry received)
MS Dhoni - honestbharani
J Dujon - Pothas
F Engineer - Blakus
G Evans - Somerset
A Flower - Simon
A Gilchrist - silentstriker
B Haddin - Nnanden
I Healy - Marcuss
A Knott - NUFAN
R Marsh - flyonthewall (default selection as didn't submit a winning bid)
J Russell - Himannv
K Sangakarra - slowfinger
D Tallon - Michael7777777
C Walcott - G.I.Joe

For the record, the 3 I added were M Boucher, R Marsh and J Russell.

The highest winning bid was $2,100,000 so Noble One and flyonthewall both end up paying that for their drafted player.

The winning bids were (from lowest to highest) - $25,003, $100,000, $450,000, $505,000 , $540,000, $650,000, $700,000, $750,000, $920,000, $1,100,000, $1,310,000, $1,350,000, $1,500,000, $1,850,017, $2,100,000.

For Round 2 we've got batsmen, and I only received 12 entries, 1 of which was duplicated, so have added 6 in of my own:

M Butcher
D Compton
R Dravid
A Faulkner
S Gavaskar
WG Grace
W Hammond
M Hayden
J Hobbs
B Lara
J Miandad
K Miller
V Richards
G Sobers
B Sutcliffe
D Walters
S Watson

A wide range of different players there, that's for sure.

Deadline for this round is 8pm GMT on Wednesday evening and can you include in your email a nomination for round 3's draft - which will be our first bowler (or bowling all-rounder)

I'll take someone not on the list for $2,100,000 if I can enter. Preferably Alec Stewart.

Delighted to get Ames - widely regarded as the greatest wicketkeeper-bastman in test history until Gilchrist came along.

Interesting list of batters there, will have to think for a bit about who I target. I'm not sure I'd say Miller was a batting all-rounder, but then he is probably one of the very few players in test history who were genuine all-rounders for a long period so I can see him qualifying for either batting or bowling lists.

Edit: And for the record I have no problem with Ed joining and taking Stewart for $2.1m.

Edit2: Marc, I don't know if you've already been asked this, but what will you do if a player has equal bids from two or more drafters?

Obviously $500. Wouldn't make any sense to pay 1$ higher than the second highest bid. Might as well bid the entire $10,000 on every player you want then :p

Wow, some big money being thrown about lol..

Quick question on round 2, wasn't it supposed to be batting allrounders for this round? Some of those names are pretty much pure bred batsmen.. Not that I'm complaining, considering the quality of names in that list.

How much did you get Ames for? He happens to be one of my favourite cricketers of all time. Happens to share a surname as well.

Silentstriker got Gilchrist for 2,100,000. Thats a 5th of his budget. Obviously half will be splurged on McGrath, and another 5th on Akash Chopra. Leaves him with 1,000,000 to spend on 8 players

The Wheel is Forever
Here was my reasoning for making Gilchrist the highest paid player on my team:

  1. Bradman will likely be out of my reach, as you know someone will pay like $4 million.
  2. The difference, I feel, between Gilchrist and the second best, is much bigger difference than between the best pace bowler, and the second best pace bowler, therefore this is the right place to splurge. Or the difference between the 2nd best batsman, and even the 15th best batsman.
  3. Since I won't be getting Bradman, having Gilchrist will boost my batting if I have to play against Bradman's team and overall my batting might be equivalent to theirs because of it.
  4. I feel having a keeper like Flower or Sangakarra weakens the position and thus the team too much, while Gilchrist is both a full time batsman and a full time keeper.

So are we going to find out how much everyone has spent on each player? I'm happy with Knott..

I actually made a big mistake and for some reason thought the budget was $1million, not $10million - therefore my prices Marc received were far lower than I was prepared to pay for them. Even so thrilled to get Godfrey Evans at such a bargain! I think people can guess which of those listed prices was the one I paid - not sure how someone managed to pay more for Kamran Akmal. :p

Evans was around 7th on my list, I bid $500k for him. If I knew I could've got him for less than 30k I would have definitely gone after him that's for sure. You got a bargain there.

I went Flower as I like to have a strong keeper batsman, i paid a fairly sizeable ammount (1.31m) but I think it's money well spent. will hopefully allow me to have a good balance.

I went the other way around and didn't want to select someone who isn't really that good a keeper as my keeper.

I had Ames (paid $1.1m) just ahead of Sanga and Flower because I would rather have someone who is a very good keeper and a very good batsman than someone who is an excellent batsman and a 'good enough' keeper. I actually had Knott ahead of Flower for a similar reason. The last thing I'd want in this hypothetical contest is my wicketkeeper dropping Bradman, Hobbs et al early on.

Btw, GI Joe are you going to use Walcott behind the stumps? I actually bid a fair amount for him but wouldn't have asked him to keep.

I like to have 5 bowlers, so if I ended up with a great keeper like Healy, Marsh, Dujon etc... who werent great with the bat then I'd be risking expecting to pick up Sobers, Miller or Khan to bat in the top 6 and thought would be tough.
