Remember talking to Faras Ghani (a sports journalist) a couple of years back. I asked him about any good young batsman he mentioned Umer Akmal but he said he's a 17 yr old with a 7 yr old brain and he was not just talking about his cricket but the general stuff he does and the lads in his team always end up taking him for a ride.

I think this currrent episode with his brother might have taken him on an emotional roller coaster and he might have gotten carried away with it.
The way Akmal never stops talking to himself I could have sworn he was autistic.

reports are Misbah and Faisal are also dropped with Manzoor and Shoaib Malik getting in.
That's the best they could come up with? Malik was just plain horrible in New Zealand, he couldn't buy a run and was dropping catches left right and centre, at least Iqbal's a decent slipper. From what I saw of Manzoor in the first test I wouldn't be expecting much from him either.

beggers cant be choosers hopefully both will fail and we will finally start giving chances to some of the new lads rather then recycling same old garbage.

Malik is a star feilder dropped catches were one off.

To be honest i would personally like to see kamran akmal in the team purely as a batsman, i believe he has alot more to offer than someone like faisal iqbal or misbah in terms of batting, i would want to see him either in the opening slot or one down (in place of faisal iqbal). Although saying all this it depends on how yusuf leads, if he goes with the defensive approach, no matter what sort of batting or bowling line-up you have, you will always find a way to loose. So a change would only matter if a captain is ready to play for a win and have a fearless approach.

Personally I'd like to see Akmal in the team as a batsmen if they end up taking away the keeping duties from him, would probably keep him down the order however and play him at six.

Just looking at the stats for this seasons Pakistan domestic season and a two names that stick out for me are Naved Yasin and Asad Shafiq. Yasin being a former Pakistan under 19 player and averaging close to 60 in FC cricket must have some quality, has anyone here seen him play?

Love how Kamran can pick himself :p. And Yousuf would lose Kamran forever if he votes against him.

I don't understand the logic of having players in the selection committee, even the captain. The captain should work closely with the selection committee and give his thoughts to the selectors in private, but should not be a voting member.
Should go even further than that and have a separate selection panel i.e. no coach involved either. When Bobby Simpson was coach of OZ, was felt his favourites tended to get selected so when he finished up, the new coach (Geoff Marsh, from memory) wasn't included on the selection panel and neither was anyone else from that point onwards.
But then what happens when you have bowlers that a captain clearly doesn't trust in the side?

Was Malik not picked in the first two tests on form or injury? I've always rated him.

He's a handsome bastard as well.

Malik is so far superior to Iqbal with the bat, why is this an issue? You don't pick a number 3 batsman based on his ability at slip.

Did you watch the New Zealand-Pakistan series? It looked like if you got the ball higher then his belly button he had no clue on what to do with it.

Have you ever seen Iqbal bat? You don't pick specialist fielders. Iqbal may go the whole match without getting a catching chance. But he would almost certainly have to bat twice.

Yes, because I actually ment I'd pick a batsmen as a specialist fielder 8-) I mentioned the fielding because they both seem to be pretty average batsmen but unlike Malik who was dropping catches all series (and even started to not even bother attempting them) Iqbal can catch.
