You do have to wonder why Smith chose to bat when batting conditions were toughest. Strauss giving the SA skipper a bit of a batting lesson too, he's showing him how to move it along.

Wow he's scored 50 of the 59 runs in the innings. That's beyond pedestrian from Cooky, but you can't really blame him with the Strauss show going on.

The SA attack has become quite theadbare looking since they were in Australia. Time for them to unearth some young quicks to revitalise it methinks. England treating them with disdain compared with the heavy weather SA made of batting.

A bit like the Ashes again, England survive a tight draw and then comprehensively outplay their opposition in the next match a la Lord's. SA will be wondering what to do with such an out of sorts attack and a rampaging batsman. Strauss really rubbing it in to his opposite number who batted in such relatively pedestrian fashion yesterday.

Tbf to Smith the bowling he faced first up yesterday was of a much higher class.
