*Official* England in South Africa

You do have to wonder why Smith chose to bat when batting conditions were toughest. Strauss giving the SA skipper a bit of a batting lesson too, he's showing him how to move it along.

Why are the odds so low for a draw in this match?
Draw $1.44
England $5.00
South Africa $5.50

Love seeing Strauss do well, really want Cook to get a score today though. Don't think a decent 60 odd would be good enough, really hoping that both of these pair go on to three figures.

Onya Strauss

Hoping for century #19 today. Would take him one ahead of his opposite number IIRC?

Wow he's scored 50 of the 59 runs in the innings. That's beyond pedestrian from Cooky, but you can't really blame him with the Strauss show going on.

The SA attack has become quite theadbare looking since they were in Australia. Time for them to unearth some young quicks to revitalise it methinks. England treating them with disdain compared with the heavy weather SA made of batting.

Shocker of a start for Ntini, if he can't reign it in and take some wickets, he could be looking at his last Test for a while.

A bit like the Ashes again, England survive a tight draw and then comprehensively outplay their opposition in the next match a la Lord's. SA will be wondering what to do with such an out of sorts attack and a rampaging batsman. Strauss really rubbing it in to his opposite number who batted in such relatively pedestrian fashion yesterday.

Don't get carried away. Even as the token English optimist round these parts I ain't giving us the box seat just yet.

And what a surprise! - he's been pox for months now. Nobody so blind as those that can't see. Smith and the selectors are clueless.

Tbf to Smith the bowling he faced first up yesterday was of a much higher class.

Incidentally, what's the record for the lowest score by an opener when his partner has made a 50? Cook's 8 must be up/down there?
